Help with LA transport

Is there anyone out there can provide some information for the transport situation in LA? I'll be at both shows this weekend and will be staying in a hotel in Hollywood. I've stayed at this hotel before and know that it has a metro station right outside. Having been at the Phoenix show last night I am looking to find out what my chances of getting the metro back to the hotel if LA finishes at the same time (11.20). Does the metro run late on Saturday & Sunday? I do have a hire car and would be prepared to drive instead if there is plenty of safe parking in the area of the venue? I'm not looking to park on the streets, I know that wouldn't be a good idea.
I'd really appreciate any info from LA residents who know the area. Thanks in advance.

I'm not an LA resident but have looked into this somewhat as I will be needing to take the subway/metro back to my hotel as well. Seems like it runs past midnight both Saturday and Sunday, so it seems like it should be fine. I've heard that it can be sketchy, but I don't have any first hand info.
Here's a trip planner to the arena, you will want to get on the Expo line: http://www.metro.net/riding/usc/
Plenty of trains leaving USC/Exposition Park area after 11:30pm:

Then you just connect to a red line train at 7th St/Metro Center:

And you'll be back in Hollywood. Lots of trains running at that time, even later on Saturday night.
The LA metro isn't nearly as nice as others in the US/Europe, but I've never had an issue. There is a seedier element, but if you use common sense you'll have no problems. There will be enough other people on it where you should be fine. I may be taking it both nights too.
The area around the arena is shitty, but there's plenty of safe official parking in the arena complex. But there's no real reason to drive if you have such great access to the metro. Metro's wayyyy cheaper, and you won't need to worry about traffic or driving after a few drinks/etc.
A cab fare would probably be about $25/30, one way.
See you in LA.
The tube is reliable (in the main) but it's overcrowded, dirty and hugely over priced. Why the expense is a mystery, the Paris metro by comparison is incredibly cheap and that City is every bit as expensive as London. I used the LA metro to travel a few places including a trip to Long Beach which went through some bad neighbourhoods but I didn't feel in any danger.
