Why did I underestimated My Father's Son?

Had a tendancy to skip this song during the first 50 times or so I listened to LB. But why? Simply great track. Just wish one day I will hear a combo of My Father's Son into Green Disease.

I still can't get into that song.

yeah it's a tough one for me as well. ends very, very strong. it's just a matter of getting through the first three minutes.

  • Probably because the change between the bridge and the rest of the song makes it some of the most musically challenging stuff the band has recorded. Also, the vocals start slow and don't "heat up" until nearly the last verse. But when it does, it is a SCREAMER.

My absolute fav on LB. Incredible lyrics, vocals, riffs. Love the crazy bridge. I think it's the most interesting lyric Ed has ever written. I'm surprised everyone doesn't love it. Man, Ed's vocals toward the end... amazing.

  • It's my favorite off LB also, hands down since I started to get a handle on the album.

I did the same, man. But after 50 listens of not skipping it, it grew on me and I do like it now. Still not my favorite, but it's bearable. This was the one song I think I actually had to try to like.
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

Took a little while to sink in for me, but I love it now, especially the lyrics through the bridge

I remember when I first listened to Lightning Bolt on the iTunes stream, My Father's Son was a track that I thought, "I'm gonna have to come back to this one; something about it stands out."
It's probably my favourite song on the album. Jeff's bass is so strong. I enjoy how Stone and Mike's guitars don't over take the song, either. It's clearly a song that Jeff owns. Great lyrics, too. I love it.

I love it. Right away. I cannot get into Sirens. I get the sentiment, but it doesn't touch anything. I love that My Father's Son is not cheesy. And I dig the bass and the 80-ish guitars. It's very un-Pearl Jam, but cool!

Great tune. Rocks but is still more than a basic rocker.

Not only is it my favourite on the album, but one of my top 5 Pearl Jam songs, period. Everything about it is perfect for me.

It wasn't one that jumped out at me at first. Probably took me about 8-9 listens before it finally dug its hooks into me. Now it's one of the songs I look forward to the most on the album. Which is a good sign for me of a quality song -- the ones that take a while to sink in are often songs that stick with me forever.

IMO MFS is to LB what DTE is to Yield? A flat out grab you by the throat and slam you to the ground song. One of the best ever! It is a travesty that MFS and Getaway are not concert staples. Such a pity.
