Anyone else have a hard time with Sirens?

I know the band is super proud of the song ,its powerful for sure....but the opening kills me.
I cant relate the sirens with the rest of the song.

Mike is killer on this song, esp the solo.....Eds lyrics in the verse are powerful/moving/meaningful
.....but those damn sirens......"hear the sirens"......ouch

Heard it live for the first time and was hoping it would convert me......BUZZ KILL

I know you'll all stone me for this.......but I'm having problems with it like no other Pearl Jam song.

I think it's one of their best songs of the last few albums. I was also a bit surprised with the opening guitars on the first listen - wasn't sure if I liked the electric. But now I love it!

LB isn't my favorite record but it's damn good, and Sirens is one of the better tracks on it... since you're asking. ;)

I have an easy time with it by not listening to it.
    Come to send, not condescend...

I have a hard time not putting it on repeat for an hour or so...such an amazing song.
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?

the opening is very bon jovi...that drum intro..ugh. I like it a bit more since I saw the steve gleason piece.

I don't mind it, but not one of my favs...maybe it'll change live.

Didn't love it initially but it grew on me after watching the Steve Gleason interview since it's in the background and the interview was so emotionally charged. And was won over when I saw it live :) The live version definitely kicks the album version in the ass.

It's OK if you don't like it, you're allowed to still be a fan even if you don't love ALL their songs :)

Gotta admit, when I read this thread title, I thought "sirens bashing??"... then my 2nd thought was "or having a "hard time" as in ... crying during the song." which i could relate to more, so I thought, oh heck ya... I get emotional over this song... let's talk it through then. Fail :fp:

Easily my least favorite on the album.

This part of the song pains me almost as much as "Ole".

  • Siren is awesome live

It's the melodramatic drum intro that kills me. Definitely a what were they thinking moment every time I hear it. But I do think it's a good song.
  • If the sirens were the same kind of Sirens referenced in Force of Nature it would be more powerful.

This made me laugh! I must agree, I skip Sirens when listening to LB.
If I knew where it was, I would take you there....

I love the Lightning Bolt record. I really do. But still, Sirens & Sleeping By Myself are the only tracks off the album that I have a hard time to listen to.

Music is music. Not everyone has the exact same feelings & taste of a song.

I like it. Is it something they would have put out twenty years ago....no, but it's a sign of their growth. I definitely relate to it now in my life.

I don't have a problem with it. Ed sounded a little rough on Fallon though with it.

    I enjoy sirens...

The only part that bugs me is the solo.

    Listen to the sirens solo.

Now listen to the November rain solo.

What you will hear is the reason I say it bugs me.

It's a great song, but not my favorite.

Here's a pretty decent video I took in Philly of sirens.

Has great sound. Gives you a good feeling for a "good" live version. I agree Fallon was rough.

    :wtf:

This I don't agree with at all. I don't see why people keep saying this song shows growth.

I don't. I really, really dig it and hearing it live only made me love it more. I can definitely see how people have a hard time with it, though.
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

I am hanging in the balance of a perfect finished plan
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.
  • It's a great song. After the first few listens I just thought it was a good song and one that I thought I'd get sick of...but after a few hundred listens I love it and rate it as one of their greatest pieces. And for those who say it's cheesy, well no it's not. It's about love yes. It's about fragility of life yes. But it is written so beautifully, sung with such emotion and is musically brilliant that it is in no way cheesy. I also a huge fan of my father's son, so yeah I'm not some love sick puppy.
