My issue with all this is that it would have made more sense for Soundgarden to postpone the 2014 shows (or not have booked them at all). There is no Soundgarden without Matt Cameron. Let Matt spend some time with his family and fulfill what he has committed to with PJ in 2014, then get back to where he is best in Soundgarden for 2015. Makes sense to me anyway.
And all this shit about him "choosing PJ over Soungarden" in this thread... someone even said "we won" He had already committed time to PJ, then had to choose between Soundgarden or family. I massively respect him for needing and choosing to spend quality time with his family. In the long run, I hope for the pure reason of not wasting his talent that he can dedicate himself to Soundgarden as much as possible. In PJ, he's basically a backing musician for what has become a middle of the road rock band, which is a massive shame.0 -
Interesting.
Is this only for the Black Sabbath shows they couldn't or wouldn't get out off, or will Soundgarden do a bunch of more dates without Cameron?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Well I already saw SG with Matt a few months ago, and I plan to see PJ with Matt in 2014, so I am fine with this.
Shame for people seeing SG in 2014, but it doesn't look like they had a lot planned for 2014 anyway.0 -

I've not read the whole of this thread but if people are putting "we won" that kinds of shows their mentality. Matt already stated when Soundgarden got back together that PJ was his day job. Like yourself I was pretty surprised Soundgarden booked dates for 2014 after already stating at the of recent 2013 tour that they would be taking a year off - Matt to go back to PJ, Chris & Ben to do their solo stuff and Kim to work on a boxset. I'm guessing alot of money has been thrown their way for the South America festival dates and then for supporting Black Sabbath in Europe. I don't blame the guys in Soundgarden for that, fair play to them. I'm pretty certain it has been an incredibly difficult decision for Matt to come too.2000: Manchester

Not for nothing but the other extreme is demeaning Pearl Jam for really no reason other than to try and incite others on the board.... Unless it is truly the belief that of the "rock" that is out there today, Pearl Jam is really "middle of the road".0

Yeah I don't agree with that statement. Or that Matt is wasted in Pearl Jam. I don't think he is. I'm quite tired of that argument over the last few years. I don't really understand why people compare Matt's drumming in SG to PJ. They are different bands with different styles!2000: Manchester

I'm fortunate enough to have seen both bands with Matt, he's truly among the top two drummers in the world. Personally I'm really pleased he's chose to concentrate his efforts on PJ as my introductory album was Avocado, so Pearl Jam without Matt, at least for me, is inconceivable.
Chris Cornell is amazing enough to carry any band, Soundgarden will still be a force to be reckoned with next year.Twitter

This is sad.
:(
It is a stinky situation for Soundgarden,
and replacing your drummer for a tour seems like kind've a lame thing to do.
I'm not pooin' on Matt.
It is what it is, and you can't be everywhere and do everything.
But Soundgarden just ain't Soundgarden without him.

If I opened it now would you not understand?0 -

Clearly, the band itself totally disagrees with you about them not even existing without Matt, because they are going ahead without him.I guess they would know. In any case, i suspect that they will find another killer drummer and everyone will say it sounds great , even if they do miss Matt. This is not going to ruin the show. I understand the disappointment, but this does not mean the death of SG. I mean fuck, if anyone knows how a band can move along after a change with the drummer, it should be a PJ fan..... although in all fairness, you don't sound like one of those. Anyway, SG has done one okay album amd one tour in 16 years... how does anyone even think they really know what SG is or isn't at this point anyway??
Yes, he did choose Pearl Jam over Soundgarden. If he hadn't he would be spending 2014 with SG and his family, not PJ and his family.
A backing musician for a middle of the road band? We can leave alone the middle of the road comment because that is just pure opinion (one that seems ludicrous, especially coming from someone who is a paying member of their fan club and is telling this to others who you know perfectly well think PJ is one of the greatest bands of all time, but okay buddy. I'm sure 10c and Pearl Jam appreciate your odd use of your cash no matter how you feel about them). But how in the fuck do you think the only drummer in a rock band where all the members are known to be very collaborative is a backup musician? That makes zero sense.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Maybe Adam Levine could replace him.0
