  • Wow, did not see that coming!

Josh Freese would be a good replacement, seems to be able to turn his hand to pretty much anything.

How SG can go on without Matt is beyong me but I guess they've agreed to play dates and have to fullfill those demands. He is such a force and machine in SG.

I can only hope Jimmy Chamberlin would replace him, that'd be real amazing.

I say do alternating tours, or hell... have PJ and SG tour together[/quote]

    :clap::clap::clap:

I would sell my soul and go on the tour with them :D

Hmm. On the one hand, I want albums upon albums. On the other hand, Vitalogy is my least favorite PJ album, having in my opinion a bunch of filler between all the great songs.

I hope this means some Midwest dates. We're so often snubbed. Christ, the please play MN thread has like 5,000 responses or something like that.

I'm praying for some UK dates next year.

I definitely won't be making the same mistake as I did in 2012 of only going to 1 show!

The boys love HI...Ed lives here part-time, and they put on a killer show here in '06 (including the Waimea special show and out performing U2...imho)! Sun, waves, family time and relaxation before embarking on whatever '14 has in store. Someone mentioned a while back that HI probably won't happen because the band may not have all their gear since they're doing festival shows down under and not stand alone concerts. I'm not sure how that kind of stuff works...but as we say here in HI..."If can, can. If no can, no can." But I'd prefer the former! :D

I have heard of Poi Dog Pondering. Not familiar with their music though. Wanna say I first heard the name in late '90s or early '00s? Are they still together?

The obvious choice for Matt. I would imagine that everyone in SG knew this was a possibility when they got back together and were prepared to deal with it.

I hope this means a PJ weekend at the Gorge in 2014. :D

  • Dude has his priorities straight. Hell he's been in Pearl Jam longer than he was in Soundgarden. And in PJ longer than all the other PJ drummers combined. Matt Cameron is the drummer of Pearl Jam. That's what it is. He can still record with Soundgarden and tour with them when PJ is on hiatus. But Pearl Jam's the meal ticket. I've even gotten that vibe from Matt in interviews. He had obvious "new guy" syndrome in like 2000 and 2003ish. But now, he comes off as if he's been around just as long as Stone or any of them.

I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

  • World tour!!!!!TO INCLUDE JAPAN and ASIA I VERY MUCH HOPE!!!!
    The waiting drove me mad!!!
  • It makes sense, Soundgarden did the touring for King Animal all this year.

I am lucky enough to have been able to see them in 2012 and in February

I seriously doubt that. I'm sure Chris knew all along where Matt's priorities are. The band got back together knowing that they had Pearl Jam's drummer and that PJ had an album in the works. They knew the deal, and they probably completely understand.

Considering how close Cornell is to Pearl Jam I bet he is patting Matt on the shoulder. Especially since the King Animal promoting and touring has been going on for a year and PJ just started touring for LB it makes logical sense
  • My issue with all this is that it would have made more sense for Soundgarden to postpone the 2014 shows (or not have booked them at all). There is no Soundgarden without Matt Cameron. Let Matt spend some time with his family and fulfill what he has committed to with PJ in 2014, then get back to where he is best in Soundgarden for 2015. Makes sense to me anyway.

And all this shit about him "choosing PJ over Soungarden" in this thread... someone even said "we won" He had already committed time to PJ, then had to choose between Soundgarden or family. I massively respect him for needing and choosing to spend quality time with his family. In the long run, I hope for the pure reason of not wasting his talent that he can dedicate himself to Soundgarden as much as possible. In PJ, he's basically a backing musician for what has become a middle of the road rock band, which is a massive shame.
  • Interesting.

Is this only for the Black Sabbath shows they couldn't or wouldn't get out off, or will Soundgarden do a bunch of more dates without Cameron?

Well I already saw SG with Matt a few months ago, and I plan to see PJ with Matt in 2014, so I am fine with this.

Shame for people seeing SG in 2014, but it doesn't look like they had a lot planned for 2014 anyway.

I've not read the whole of this thread but if people are putting "we won" that kinds of shows their mentality. Matt already stated when Soundgarden got back together that PJ was his day job. Like yourself I was pretty surprised Soundgarden booked dates for 2014 after already stating at the of recent 2013 tour that they would be taking a year off - Matt to go back to PJ, Chris & Ben to do their solo stuff and Kim to work on a boxset. I'm guessing alot of money has been thrown their way for the South America festival dates and then for supporting Black Sabbath in Europe. I don't blame the guys in Soundgarden for that, fair play to them. I'm pretty certain it has been an incredibly difficult decision for Matt to come too.

Not for nothing but the other extreme is demeaning Pearl Jam for really no reason other than to try and incite others on the board.... Unless it is truly the belief that of the "rock" that is out there today, Pearl Jam is really "middle of the road".

Yeah I don't agree with that statement. Or that Matt is wasted in Pearl Jam. I don't think he is. I'm quite tired of that argument over the last few years. I don't really understand why people compare Matt's drumming in SG to PJ. They are different bands with different styles!

I think it is because his drumming in SG is looked as more "creative".
