Amazed nobody has mentioned John Deacon yet, the absolute master of good taste, and creator of several of the most iconic basslines of all time.
This song The Millionaire Waltz, although not the most iconic, surely has to be one of the most beautifully played and written bass centred tracks of all time:

Ramble On, heard it a thousand times before really understanding how good JPJ is, even Jimmy's playing is underrated on this song.0

Moon and Entwistle were the best rhythm section for The Who, but they wouldn't work for any other band, together or apart. Can't really knock them for that, but give me Bonzo and JPJ all day.0

One of the Millions - XTC (Colin Moulding) From XTC's 1989 record, Oranges and Lemons.
Here's a dude playing along with it: http://youtu.be/RZpAFrFwH0s (This fellow is playing a 5-string, but he doesn't use the bottom one ... Colin Moulding only ever played a 4-string as far as I know.)
Here is the album recording: http://youtu.be/t9m8-EUFi-E0
