Finally ready to rank my LB tracks...

I love this album obviously...I even posted after about my 3rd or 4th listen that it was a 'masterpiece' and my 2nd favorite after Yield. Well, time will tell regarding those comments, but the fact remains that I love the album, in it's entirety.
It was pretty hard to rank it initially, especially my favorites and least favorites, but after some time, I think I have it figured out. The only big change I made after my 'official ranking listen' today was that I moved Future Days to the bottom. BEAUTIFUL song...but after Sirens, Yellow Moon, SBM...I thought it was one too many ballad type songs for my taste. Would've been nice to have the album close with Ole instead!
Anyways, here is my list...
My Father's Son..."CAN I GET A REPRIEVE???" (love that part enough to make it my favorite song)
Lightning Bolt (this song has it all)
Sirens (that high note makes me verklempt!)
MYM
Getaway
Yellow Moon
Pendulum
Infallible
SBM
Swallowed Whole
Let The Records Play
Future Days

I love all the songs, but I agree with you about Future Days. While it is an amazing song, it's not my favorite...here's my list...

I love the album as well. Hard to say what my favorite album is but this is up there. Surprised Swallowed Whole is lower on both of your lists. My list keeps changing but Swallowed Whole, Getaway, Sirens and Yellow Moon are all on top. I don't hate any of the songs but LTRP, Future Days and SBM are on the bottom.Milwaukee, 7/8/95

I'm the nerd that "graded" all the songs on all ten albums. Here's how Lightning Bolt shook out:
1. Pendulum (96)
2. Infallible (93.5)
3. Sirens (87.5)
4. Mind Your Manners (82.5)
5. Getaway (80)
5 tie. Yellow Moon (80)
7. Swallowed Whole (77.5)
8. My Father's Son (75) *Note: This song is growing on my immensely at the moment.
8 tie. Sleeping By Myself (75)
8 tie. Future Days (75)
11. Lightning Bolt (72.5)
12. Let the Records Play (72.5)
It should be noted that this album came in 2nd overall, just a hair behind Ten. Pretty amazing, really.Apr 07, 1994/Oct 01, 1996/Jul 07, 1998/Jul 08, 1998/Aug 29, 1998/Aug 31, 1998/Sep 01, 1998/Sep 03, 1998/Sep 04, 1998/Sep 06, 1998/Jun 01, 2000/Jun 04, 2000/Jun 06, 2000/Oct 20, 2000/Oct 21, 2000/Oct 22, 2000/Oct 24, 2000/Oct 25, 2000/Oct 20, 2001/Oct 21, 2001/May 30, 2003/Jun 01, 2003/Jun 02, 2003/Jun 28, 2003/Jul 02, 2003/Oct 25, 2003/Jul 15, 2006/Jul 16, 2006/Jul 18, 2006/Jul 20, 2006/Jul 22, 2006/Jul 23, 2006/Sep 21, 2009/Sep 22, 2009/Sep 26, 2009/Sep 25, 20110 -

InfallibleFurther back and forth a wave will break on me, today...0 -
Lightning Bolt - end to end one of my favorites since yield
Getaway - allllmost #1....one of the tightest, catchiest tunes in the catalogue
Swallowed Whole - mike's solo through the 2nd chorus absolutely KILL IT!
Sirens - not black, but a great ballad for 23 yrs later
Let the Records Play - what a fresh sound.....love the riffs in the verses and the quirky time change in the bridge
My Father's Son - the anger in this one, juxtaposed with the brightness of the bridge is quite clever
MYM - succeeds where ole' & supersonic fail
Yellow Moon - very good tune; wish the music was a bit more intricate
Infallible - solid, but it lacks some elements that could make it great (cannot get over the synth)
Pendulum - like this song, but no way is it the best on LB, as some claim
Future Days - growing on me, but still way back
SBM - Decent, but just don't feel like it fits
What a solid record - leaps and bounds better than BS!0 -

This ranking still seems to change every few days for me. I really didn't care for Lightning Bolt or My Father's Son at first, but now they're creeping their way nearer to the top of my list. Funny how that happens.

At the moment this is my current list, it will probably change as i love the album as a whole, really strong throughout.
1. My Fathers Son - Can't stop listening to this at the moment....love the way the aggression builds in Ed as it goes on.
2. Pendulum - Loved this from the moment i heard the brief snippet in the early youtube clip.
3. Yellow Moon - Great song. Classic PJ for me, love the way it builds.
4. Getaway - Excellent album opener. Tight, catchy....sets the tone for a great record to follow.
5. Swallowed Whole - Something about this i really enjoy. Love the way the guitars are layered. Great track.
6. Sirens - Just love this. Great vocal, emotional lyrics. Listened to this one a lot and not tiring of it.
7. Infallible - Like the different sound on this one, though its still totally PJ. I can feel this one will grow on me a lot.
8. Lightning Bolt - Really strong song, what i expect from PJ.
9. MYM - Great first single and very strong tune, i'm actually surprised its this far down my list.
10. Future Days - I really like this and think its a great album closer.
11. Let The Records Play - Like the different style in this and the verses are cool but that chorus....still not sure.
12. Sleeping By Myself - Catchy and 'nice' but a little out of place on this record.
That was harder than i thought, tbh i could have listed the top 3 and then had 4-9 as equal as they are very strong and i notice new things in them that i like with every listen.
I think that seeing these songs live could definitely change how you rank them. Gonna be at least summer next year before that happens for us in the UK though i would imagine.
I love in this thread how there are so many different orders to peoples ranking. This to me shows how strong the album is.0 -
Alright, I'm already bored at work...I still hold the first 6 songs as "classics" going forward, but the second half of the album is very bland to me (3-4 throw aways)...

I agree about the diversity of the song rankings here. If there were only 3 or 4 great songs they would be at the top of everybody's list. So hard to rank. The album as a whole is easier to rank for me. I put it as the best since Yield.0 -
