Did you make your way up front, or did you have to be one of the first few in?

It was awesome and everyone around me had a great time from what I can tell. Not to self promote, but there's also a lot of discussion about the GA experience in this thread:

It was nice. I was about three people deep in front of Jeff. People around us were respectful of one another and highly engaged in the show (aside from the drunk troll behind us who couldn't stand and looked like the water hole zombie from The Walking Dead). That said, I'm glad I didn't have GA for Buffalo. I was too exhausted from Pitt and really wanted to snag a few beers during the show and relax beforehand. I'm in GA again in Vancouver, but I doubt I'll be standing outside all day to get close like I did in Pittsburgh. I heard the view toward the back of the pit was fine. Plus, who wants to stand outside all day in December in Canada?
Still, it was an incredible experience and it was so great to be that close to the guys. The closest I had ever been prior was for the Toledo stop on the Vote For Change tour in 2004. I had third row seats for that show, which was nice because my 10C number sucked (joined in '03). Tickets for that tour weren't based on seniority.Post edited by landingonwater on0 -
Literally a dream come true for me to be so close in Buffalo (2nd/3rd "row" in front of Jeff's mic stand). The closest I had ever been before was 15th row in Ottawa in 2011. With my relatively high-ish number (345xxx) I never thought I'd ever be close, so I took advantage of the pit this time. The GA pit was full of equally enthusiastic fans, all jumping and singing at the top of their lungs. it was really fun. Being so close is truly amazing and I hope I'll be able to do it again. I may not, so I truly soaked it all in.....
It's a completely different experience being close. you have a connection with the band. It feels like they're playing just for you. You make random eye contact with the guys and Mikey in particular will acknowledge your yells/cheers and throw picks at you. It's phenomenal to see him play (and be able to actually SEE his hands and fingers work the frets up close....).
The back of the pit might be a bit different, but I would try to get as close as you can. It is well worth it, and the chance may never come again!
The only qualm I had was all the drunkards forcefully pushing themselves forward in the pit for the last two songs. They didn't seem to give a shit and I had to fight hard to hold my spot. But beyond that, everyone around me was respectful and really into the show, which made it that much more enjoyable.
Plus, there was some crowd surfing in Buffalo! While I wouldn't do it now, it did kind of add to the experience (even though I got a foot to the head!).Post edited by nevmiles onBarrie 08/22/98

I had GA for Worcester 2.
I had the center rail all night - the rail at the back of the GA pit
Back of the GA pit is still pretty nice... I think I'd rather be at the back rail anyway, its something to lean on and I had a little elbow room... I could go get a beer, take a piss break and come back to my same spot.
Plus, it sounded great and I could see everything.EV Solo Boston 6/16/11

Had GA for Worcester 1 and I thought it was unreal. I was a little concerned when I saw some of the fan views from Buffalo and Pittsburg, but it went pretty smoothly in Worcester in terms of getting in there, getting a great spot, no one running for the railing, etc. I was in line by like 5:15 and it looked like a huge line, but I was only 6-7 people deep in what I have learned should be referred to as "McCreadyville." The crowd was great, I was actually moved to getting a little teary-eyed at points. Really nice people all around me, everyone was super into it (plenty of people I've seen before, for sure). Mike and Eddie were really working the crowd, I thought even more than usual. Got beaned right between the eyes with a pick (yeah Mike, I think you're getting a little too precise in firing those things)...became a sweaty mess during Sonic Reducer...you know, overall had the basic surreal, unearthly Pearl Jam experience.0
