10C version of Lightning Bolt extras - worth the cost?

I can get the new record for $10 at Target. Should I even bother getting it from the 10C for 11.99 plus the overpriced shipping?

Are the extras worth it?

Yes. The bonus digital material is a Mind Your Manners video performed a la Sirens. Plus, you support the TC.

I'm guessing 10c profits go to the band. So if you save $10 bucks who's going to benefit more. The average joe with a limited income or the band who's wealth is large enough that $10 doesn't make a big difference.

I never buy the argument of pay more for something to support the 10c. I saw pay the least amount possible.

I ordered from the 10c, but only because shipping costs when I preordered were dirt cheap so it was cheaper to order the cd&vinyl from the 10c than it was for me to buy it in Canada.

Digital content also has a way of making the rounds... so it's not that enticing to me.

    I'm all about the cheap.

I had mentioned in another thread:

"people pay american airlines an extra $10 to board 15 minutes early. I paid 10c approx $6 for shipping and got LB 4 days earlier than the release date.

Receiving it the day that I had to drive from LA to San Diego in Friday evening traffic (Oct 11)... PRICELESS"

I would add that not having to go into a Target... PRICELESS

  • I'm with Zod. The 10C isn't a charity.

You wanna spend more money on Lightning Bolt under the guise of supporting something worthy, order from an Indie record store that can't compete with a Target's price point.

I wasn't too fond of paying for $7 for shipping of a cd. Backspacer had free shipping, so I ordered it from the 10c.

Is the packaging the same as the retail versions?

As for "supporting the 10c", why should I? They feel the need to charge $7 to ship something that amazon or best buy charge $2(assuming all I ordered was the cd).

The problem is, your story is not typical. If that were my experience with pre-orders through the 10 Club, I'd buy from them every time.

Considering how late I'll be receiving the LP, exacerbated by the shipping cost, and the (so far, at least) minimal amount of digital content that came with the record...no. It's not worth it.

Go to a local indie store, if possible, and support them. If you can't do that and you don't mind supporting a Target then just buy it there. Of course, if you have the money and you don't mind waiting a while, support 10C.

Exactly this ^. This whole mess is such a disappointment. $8 shipping supposed to arrive today, and yet my tracking # just says the info is received, no other info. The one thing that convinced me to give 10c a shot, instead of going to cheaper route (Amazon, which WOULD HAVE showed up today), was the bonus content, which is one worthless video that is now on youtube.

Not only is it a mess, they don't even acknowledge it. They said the vinyl were behind, but no "sorry about the inconvenience" or anything of the sort, they just expect you to suck it up, and if you complain most people on here bash you. They also didn't acknowledge the "bonus content" being the video, they just threw it in the zipped folder. What a waste of time and money.

I bought mine from Target. If the 10C version would've had unique extras unobtainable anywhere else I would've ordered from them. They didn't so it's just more practical for me to buy it at Target.

the only reason i ordered through the 10 club was the hopes that my vinyl would come in a unique packaging different from other retailers. that's how the cds sold through the ten club are, and from what i hear this one is too. not sure if the vinyl will have a different packaging or not though as i haven't received it yet.

if you're debating on going through the ten club just for the bonus content, then i'd say no. the extras aren't worth the cost. the video will probably find it's way to youtube eventually anyway, if it hasn't already. and that's all you get. a video to watch on your computer. and not a particularly interesting video either. just a standard performance, like the sirens video.

as for the vinyl, i probably would've ordered through ten club regardless of anything. if you look on amazon, it's more expensive to the point where you aren't losing money by paying the high shipping cost. and i personally don't have any nearby record stores that will carry the vinyl. so no disappointment from me. just waiting for this thing to arrive. not today it seems.

The only extra is a MYM video that you can watch on youtube. Get it from target.

it was streaming on itunes for FREE all week.

The streaming was to say, "let's do an official leak in the way they create back-fires to stop the spread of forest fires". That was great, heard it on my computer with my so-so headphones. That was fine but not the same as having the CD in hand, something to crank in the car. Where I can "feel" the bass without pissing off my wife because the kids are doing homework.

  • I liked the video and it made me think the band should try recording an album "live in the studio", at least once. something neil youg is famous for doing. MYM sounded much better live, in my opinion.

but once it's on youtube, it wasn't really exclusive. and my CD hasn't arrived (I live in Brazil - I know it takes time). so, totally not worth it :(

How do I know when my Vinyl is going to get to me?
Do Vinyl buyers get a free download of the album?
Why isn't the download available today????

Spending a few extra bucks to get from 10C is worth it, to me. I have no idea what 10C does with their money, but I know PJ is big into activism, which I am not, so I send money to them in hopes they are doing good things with it. Even if it's just for Ed to get another bottle of wine. Fuck it.
