This album lacks the veracity I expect from Pearl Jam.

Took me 12 listens across 4 days. I gave it every chance. But I kept coming back to that.

I am sorry there exists a world of musical opinions that differs from yours ;)

Anyways in my view it is much stronger than Riot Act and the s/t with more depth than Backspacer. My opinion still stands

The only thing I find a little lacking on this album is Ed's vocal delivery and at times, the lyrics. Musically it's fantastic!!!
  • I dig it... Why does everyone have to compare it to the past?? We all grow old and change. The boys did a fine job with this album. I fucking love it. I love anything they put together. I don't give 2 shits about it being better or worse. It's new and we all needed something new.

I just downloaded it, but heard about half of it a month ago, then ripped it onto my mp3 player from the iTunes stream this past weekend. I've listened to it about 3-4 times all the way through so far, and I know it will continue to grow on me, but as of right now, I'll give it a solid 7/10.

What would make it a 10/10 for me:

1.) Replace SBM with Of the Earth.
2.) End with Yellow Moon; drop Future Days (it's not a bad song - just sounds like something that should be on an Ed solo album, maybe as a duet w/Natalie Maines or Natalie Merchant - Neko Case if we were REALLY lucky!)
3.) Lightning Bolt, Infallible, and LTRP need SOLID ending endings. The fade outs aren't cutting it for me on these songs - on the flip side, the fade outs would work on songs like Pendulum or Yellow Moon. (See #2 - a slow fade out from Yellow Moon would have been a great way to end the record.)

Just my thoughts as of now...
Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)

At first it felt like a collection of songs, rather than an album that flows from one song to the next.

But with repeat listening, that's been getting better as it becomes more familiar.

Had the same problem with No Code and Binaural. Now those albums flow just fine.

    1) I wouldn't trade a song for another. Didn't think I would, but I really like Sleeping By Myself. Someday, we will hear Of the Earth on Lost Dogs 2.

    2) I wouldn't drop Future Days, but maybe switch their order. The album should end with Yellow Moon.

    3) I agree. I hate fade outs. Save that for radio edits. If the band is rockin, let me hear it, until they stop.

    IMO

I feel the exact same way you do. Pretty much what I said to my wife earlier today, almost word for word.

I have had this album on constant repeat all week. And I'm not skipping songs either- I'm playing the album start to finish. I haven't done that since Lost Dogs!

Yeah, I like it on Uke Songs, but it's just so out of place to me on this record. It's just weird to me hearing a new batch of songs, then one I've been listening to for 2 years already thrown in the mix.
