  • And guess who has the biggest name in the booklet, bigger than the band members or even the band name? You guessed it... Mr. Cheez

    This guy has to go.

there's yet ANOTHER example. I just watched the interview with Judd Apatow, and Stone made TWO comments relating to Brendan in a negative light, whether he meant it or not.

He made mention of Getaway being a great song in its simplicity, with "no keyboards added or anything like that".

Then he was talking about how "even Brendan was proved wrong a couple times during this process, where he told us to stop working on a song because it wasn't working, but we pressed forward, he told us to stop working on it, but we pressed forward, and it ended up really working and on the record". Seriously?? And you still work with this guy?

A good producer doesn't dismiss what the BAND wants. A good producer guides the band in the direction they want to go. A producer is not their leader. A producer is their guide to the destination they want to go but need help getting to.

it's clear to me just from the things we KNOW (things that he and the band have said) that O'Brien tries to be their leader.

I thought the same too watching the interview.

Also, and it might have been said already but, PJ is too talented for fades at the end of a song. I don't get it.

    Wind this thing up.

You know what producer I think this album would have benefited from? Kasper. Although Riot Act and S/T aren't my favourite albums, I think he could have made LB sound a bit darker. This isn't a knock on Brendan because I think producers as a whole are grossly overrated; but there were a few questionable choices on LB (Sleeping By Myself).
Some people on here call O'Brien 'cheese', although I can't disagree, I just think 'over-produced' is a better description.
In the end, LB has some great tracks and I'm happy the band went in a more experimental direction for some of them, but there's no question the album has its fair share of duds.

Just a guess, but I feel like Pendelum was the song he wanted them to give up on. Thats one of the few songs I like on the album so far.

    You might be right.
Very strong song, one of the best.
I liked it on first listen!

    All I know is this....

Brendan O'Brien would not have left "Sad" off of Binaural.

Right, because he would have viewed it as a chance to add laser effects, Dr. Who sounds, tinkling bells and an O'Brien solo to the end of it! WOO HOO! Haha :fp:

Its comments like these that make me wonder if you've listened to binaural lately.

He's the goddamn producer....how you can twist this to blame Obrien is beyond me or any reasonable person.

I think the whole fade out argument gets overplayed. I kinda dig it when songs just kinda fade into the ether and often leave you wanting more. A lot of songs would end up with similar endings so it could get old through the span of an album. A good mix of both is optimal IMO.

Makes sense and I agree. The only thing I can think of is extended play time during live performances for those that fade.

    Wind this thing up.

Alright, that's a first in a lifetime of looking through albums for me. Never seen anything like that before but I can't blame Bo'B for that one. I'm pretty much with you on all your criticisms of the guy but I'd bet he had absolutely zero to do with the album layout/artwork/design. Don't have it in front of me but I can assume that was all Jeff/Ed. They're on his nuts and clearly that's what the band wanted. That goes for the end sound and production as well. Whatever qualities you or I dislike about the record may be Bo'B's negative influence but PJ is ultimately calling the shots and approving it all.

    Agreed

    Wind this thing up.

  • My one complaint, actually two.One- the video version of Sirens sounds much more together n grounded guitars seem to be heard more , where the cd version piano seems to be the carrying instrument.2- no matter how it came out, you DO NOT retread a song after your longest hiatus between records EVER and have the indusrty's number one fan base of die hards. If not Of the earth which seemed to be well liked, thought it would be that brain of j tune, one played live a long time before making the record yet finally put it on cd, than something else!.A mid tempo or rocker would have fit. They had 21 songs?. Not any of the 9 were worth trying than an already had song?? N by the interviews that decision was clearly based on BoB.You even get the sense from that article the band didn't initially want that on there. It took some persistence.Huge let down for me!!this fan base treats every new song, any new track, new release like a present under a Christmas tree n SBM was like seeing the pack of sacks not wrapped with just a bow on them.
I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired..

When I read from a review of PJ's Lightning Bolt party in Germany where it was said that BOB forced PJ to add Sleeping By Myself on the record, that shocked me very much!! Why couldn't he force PJ to put it on a B-side? Or a Christmas Single? It just had to be on PJ's new album. An Ed song that was "officially released" just a few year's ago on Ed's Ukelele Songs album, and played live many times during Ed's '11 & '12 tours.

The one & only flaw that I feel in my heart about this PJ record that BOB produced.
    Everything else is A+.

The things I do not like about this album are Brendan O'Briens fault. Lose the Casio keyboard. Lose sleeping by Myself and make them pound out a finished version of Of the Earth. Then stop making albums that run out of gas half way through. Oh and Infallible would have been and will be epic live when it sounds like real guitars. That being said Pendulum is awesome. Also please make sure Ed knows Future Days is not a Pearl Jam song.

I would have to agree with this. Not sure its BoBs fault though.
Forced to endure, what I cannot forgive.
