I think Future Days is this records equivalent to SoS, only SoS was palatable after they finished it.
With SoS they were trying to make it fit the brighter happier musical them of Backspacer, when it was clearly calling out for something more atmospheric.
I can only assume, they were trying to get some of their Celine Dion influence on record with Future Days.
Sleeping By Myself, here, is 10x the song to what appeared on Pukulele Songs.0 -
If you think this band is a democracy you haven't been paying attention. There's been an Ed solo song on each of the last 3 albums. You think this was by accident?JimmyV wrote:Do you really think the band is that powerless? I don't. unless Ed played all the music on the song then the band must have agreed to play it.
of course this is all meaningless unless we actually hear the band talk about how they don't like that there have been some Ed solo songs on their records. we are all just assuming.0 -

Of course it is not a democracy. But Ed pushing to get one of his Uke songs on the record is a lot different than BoB dictating to the band what will be on the record.___________________________________________

If you ever watch the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, you might notice at the end he's like "Here's the test, lets do something crazy.." and he puts a big ass tree right down the middle of the beautiful scenic mountain range... well this was going to be a Brendan O'brien analogy, but now I'm lost...

Bob Ross really did do that a lot... and every time I'd be like, "Noooo! You just ruined it!! It was perfect before you did that!" :fp:

I don't think BoB dictates, but I think he holds a lot of influence over the band and they trust him. And I wish they didn't.JimmyV wrote:snipes824 wrote:

um, that's totally normal for a lead singer to write an entire song on his own, if not a few (look at Cornell). it's not easy writing lyrics for someone else and making it fit their style of singing. most singers are comfortable singing their own lyrics; Ed and Cornell are two of the very few that sing lyrics written by other band members.
take away the lyrics, and each band member is pretty much equally represented with songs they have brought in nearly complete on the last few albums. how many bands use songs written by the fucking drummer???Gimli 1993

If you think I'm talking about the lyrics then you've missed the point.Hugh Freaking Dillon wrote:snipes824 wrote:

I don't get the hate either. If you don't like a song or 2 skip it. If you don't like the order of the songs change them. I wish PJ would never had started putting filler songs in their releases as it created something negative for people to latch onto and it seems it won't let them appreciate the good songs? Every artist can spoil their fan base when they put out a record or 2 with no bad songs but for Christ sake that is a rarity. Chill out already.0

ED said, “We’re gonna try out another new one on you,” he said. “We’ve got a guest who helped us make this new record. His name’s Mr. Brendan O’Brien. We’ve made all our records with him just about. He’s over there on the keyboards in left field — No. 22, Mr. Brendan O’Brien.” The love song is almost a lullaby it’s so tender. :fp:0

I actually just think this "hater" label is really misguided and unfair. So some people think, for various reasons, that the band needs a change from BoB or that BoB is skewing what the band can do. All of a sudden they are all full of hate??? I just think it's a legitimate opinion. I don't think hate even comes into it. I mean come on.With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

I think it's only a legitimate opinion if they know exactly what he is and isn't responsible for.0
