To me it sounds eerily similar to The Garden by Rush, off of their latest album. It's similar in sound, vibe, tempo and lyrical content. Call me crazy but I really hear a striking similarity:
If U2 released this song and Bono sang it the same way as Ed, a lot of folks on here would be bashing that pretentious Bono for writing another pop song. Because Bono or Bon Jovi can't be sincere like Ed.

I was going to post this in the long Sirens thread but it got locked. But I think it fits here OK:
It's interesting to me that some people are saying this is "not a Pearl Jam song". I very much recall that is what people said about Neil Young during his 80's/Geffin period- which was a little over 20 years into his career (see/hear "Lucky Thirteen" for a sampling of that period). Neil was just doing what felt right to him at the time and that period produced some good music but also disappointed some fans. Of course, few if any NY fans complained when Neil moved on to "El Dorado", "Freedom", and (especially) "Ragged Glory" and beyond. In the long run, it was all part of the long journey. I'm glad PJ s still on their journey even though I personally have no interest in the song discussed here, don't care much for the last album and am feeling dubious about LB. No biggie. It's a long wonderful trip anyway you look at it.
Anyway, the analogy here is obvious and I could be totally full of crap but that's my take.
Don't flame me for this but the beginning of the song reminds me of Adam Sandlers "Medium Pace".
Why flame? That's a certified classic. I can definitely see where Ed may have drawn lyrical inspiration from it as well.
I KNEW they stole it from somewhere!!! And Sandler sang with Ed at the fundraiser last weekend. Maybe that's the connection. Isn't there a line about a shampoo bottle in Sirens???

No line about shampoo bottles but I believe there is a line about pizza delivery boys and masturbation.
I don't know why, but after i listened to this the first time, i suddenly had Collective Soul - "The World I Know" stuck in my head.
And I hadn't heard that song in about 15 years.
:eh:
KLOS 95.5 Los Angeles played it this morning (9/21/2013) and I turned my head in amazement over the similarities.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

My 6 year old said it was Kenny Chesney.
dude, at least you have your +1 decided... how old are you by the way?
Well, it does kind of have a little country feel to it...
Worth re-posting. They are very similar in so many ways.

It's growing up just like me.
My daughters dad likes it too
It does, though. Listen to this song:

Thank you so much for that, I needed it. After listening to that I don't feel so bad about Sirens.
That was my musical aspirin and it took away my siren headache. OUCH that's bad there!
Perfect spot on comparison though, but I'd rather hear Eddie sing a bad song than any Nickleback song
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me
Nothing a slight change in prescription can't fix
Hopefully

With that said, being in the high school choir saved my life.
And I sure as hell like this song better than MYM with that annoying guitar riff I've heard AD(vertisement) nauseam.
