    Oh, wow.

It's not even close. The video version is so much better.

I can't believe I didn't notice the difference before now. And Matt's count-in AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE SONG is a dead giveaway.

I haven't heard the recorded version, but I could tell early on because there was a delayed drum fill that seemed accidental right at the intro. This is similar to how Soundgarden promoted "Fell On Black Days" where it was jammed out. I like that idea. ...and frankly, I think that's how songs should be played on albums to make them more tangible.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • Def like the video version better....a few things that stand out to me are this:

the studio version (as with most studio versions) sounds a bit too polished/busy and otherwise overdone, and that may be what or why some folks say it is a bit cheesy or not connecting with it. The video/live version is so so so much more powerful to me, almost 2 completely different songs to me. The delivery of the vid, the sound, the overall feeling and intensity just grabs me round the throat and pulls me in. Watching them looking back and forth at one another throughout, and eds singing/delivery is so fucking intense as though it is his last chance to sing it, to get his point across to profess his love, his trepidation, his longing, his last breath.....all that go along with it. PERFECTION!!

The studio version also seems to have a repeating "siren sound" sound in the background over and over. I cant tell if it is a guitar, or what the f the sound is, but listen to it and if you havent already noticed, it will jump out at you. While i loved the studio version and lyrics and such, the video version just takes it over the top for me. one of their best ever.....and we ALL know they are better when they are live... just my little look at it... :-)

  • I thought all notice that.. that.yep its live and ths solo is so awesome live..same the singing at the end frm the whole band
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”

Elton John's Caribou album, song called "I've seen the saucers" totally has the same sound you are describing.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

Just did the comparison and wow, what a difference! The live version has so much more energy behind it, it begs you to get into it. The Stone guitar in the beginning is also tighter, and there is a part of the Mike solo that sounds more thought-out, with added delay in a 4 or 5 note descent.

This helps answer the question of what this material will sound like live, and makes me even more excited to be seeing them in Portland at the end of November!

I was pretty bummed when I heard the studio version, especially not realizing the video was a different version until hearing the album. To combat this problem I have disappeared the video version that I've already listened 30-40 times in favor of the studio one since this is apparently how it was 'meant' to sound, although I think the video performance was much better but it has to be this way. :? :x  Sorry beautiful Sirens video performance...

Yes it will. Too bad I will be on a long car ride and miss the entire setlist thread.
