My second thought; Jesus, when did they turn into Bon Jovi?

This one is going to have to grow on me I guess. Yikes

  • This song will be the center piece of the live show, imho. It will play well in a darkened arena. Pretty sure the video was shot in a rehearsal space getting ready for the tour. We will see.

STAY CALM. PEARL JAM WILL ROCK.

Pearl jam fans need to unstick their feet from the jam and walk with their band. They're moving off without you.

It ain't Vs or any of them no more and ain't ever gonna be again
Let pearl jam be pearl jam etc

I pretty much disagree that this sounds like anything on Backspacer... or anything else in PJ's catalog...

Also I don't buy all of the BO'B scapegoating... if the band really didn't like something that was done in the studio, they can fight the producer on it... I think this is a song they wanted to make... I know BO'B helped with the arrangements but ultimately it is up to the band whether or not to keep something or toss it.

The kindest comparison that comes to mind is to "The Most Beautiful Things" by Jimmy Eat World. Love that tune.

Better to supplement PJ with other bands that are making fresh music. I don't understand forcing yourself to like something.
  • I burned a CD (cheap headphones before) and listened in the car, full bass, etc. After the 1st couple of lines, the bass-line is from In Hiding. Anybody else hear that?

    Couldnt agree more.
  • Sounds a little like Def Leppard to me... Something post Hysteria. The song is growing on me, but it may be that PJ finally jumped the shark... Maybe Eddie is sleeping by himself because PJ's Infallable track record is swallowed whole by the release of Sirens

My initial thoughts as well!! Not so much lyrically, but melodically for sure...but let me be straight ...its actuallya everything I loved about that old CheapTrick song. This song I'm sure, will become just as anthemic for PJ as it did CT.

On my 7th spin. Such a good turn. Can't wait for the rest of LB. When's this fucking clock going to hit zero?

    Good call.... you're lucky.
  • Not a fan of it. I hope the rest of the album offers something better.
  • The video version of the song is different from the album version and I might like the video version better. Stone's guitar effect is like the guitar in Elton John's Candle in the Wind and is totally appropriate. Now I'm totally hoping they play it in LA2

  • There's a Weezer song called Glorious Day from the Green Album. Some of Eddie's vocals on Sirens remind me of this song. This is not a good thing. I love Weezer. I love Pearl Jam. But they belong in two distinct camps in my brain.

My first thought was it would fit on a Bon Jovi record.

My favorite song by the band in a good long while. I like it, but then again I grew up listening to my mom's Bob Seger records.

Just watched the clip a moment ago and I'm definitely not a fan of the song.

I love PJ's slower songs as well, but this one is way too schmaltzy for me! The way Ed sings these lines (changing his pitch) is very cringeworthy:
"Let me catch my breath to breathe then reach across the bend
    ...
This light is pit, alive and I can see you clear"
