Sirens sounds like (PJ or other band's song)

Does it remind you of another song by the band or someone else?

To me, a little like a slowed down version of Robert Plant's "I believe". A little. What about your impressions?
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

I'm hearing U2 Walk On, Pink Floyd.

I've heard lots of people say Pink Floyd and I just don't hear it at all. Maybe some of the chording is similar to the few Floyd strummers but that stuff can be compared to any band.

If I had pick anything that it sounds like, I think parts of it sound like modern country power ballads. Not dismissing the tune, but it does sound similar to the crap that comes blaring out of my mom's iPod dock.

I think there might be some people looking back on their initial reaction to Sirens with a bit of shame.

Coldplay riffage - cant't place the vocal styling they are trying to emulate.

    Nickelback?

    I kid...I kid.
  • In all honesty it reminds me of a stock song that would play during a slide show in iPhoto......

From the first listen yesterday to today, I still think "Counting Crows" ala Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. BTW, I love Counting Crows, and I love Sirens... so it's a win-win for me!

I don't hear anything... maybe I'm deaf or I've been listening to something else or not paying attention... Sirens doesn't remind me of any PJ song, or any other song by other band...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

  • My first thought was it would fit on a Bon Jovi record.

I have to agree with the "country ballad" statement you made. To me it even sounds like it could be a country duet that seems to be big in the country scene. Also, I don't hate the song, don't love it either though. Still can't wait for the album!

Yeah, this might be accurate. I cant really place it in anywhere yet.

I hear a little country in there, classic rock, there are sections in there where I get a little Pink Floyd vibe. But I think the country strum is similar to the way Glen Hansard sounds country, but not. I love the song....and Matt has a bit of a looser feel. WIN!!!

and no, I don't want to start the Matt/Dave A/Jack debate here, it was just a comment on Matt's drumming and this song in particular :)
It's amazing what you hear when you take time to listen.
  • I don't know why, but after i listened to this the first time, i suddenly had Collective Soul - "The World I Know" stuck in my head.

And I hadn't heard that song in about 15 years.

    :eh:

"Leave it to me as I find a way to be.
Consider me a satellite forever orbiting.
I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me.
    Guaranteed."
  • It is completely different than anything they've done before... and quite unexpected. For what it's worth, I do like the song but I like it with a bit of hesitation. There is something to the song that feels strange... the more I listen, the more I like it though... that is good. Ed absolutely nails this song.

As far as what I can compare this to... I barely hear Pink Floyd... I do hear Counting Crows and that seems to be the closest thing I can come up with. Not sure though... def. a grower.

Somebody said U2, somebody stated Walk on, was it the same person? I don't remember, I respect that opinion, but I don't agree. In other thread somebody said Hold On, but I don't see it, not even close to Other Side either... let alone, Pink Floyd...

Parts of Vedder's vocals, the way he sings it reminds me of Pink Floyd's Mother. In fact there is tinges throughout. To be honest I just find the whole song very cheesy. Not keen on it.

I think it very much has a Division Bell feel. So it's a fair forgery of a fair forgery.

  • When Ed Sings the part "Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you, held you high above too" that's when it sounds like Walk On....to me

No jovi couldn't write a song this good. Comeback however would fit on a jovi record. Still their worst and cheeziest song in my book. Sirens sounds more like pink Floyd or even pinball wizard just a bit slower.

  • I can see some of what a lot of people are saying. I love this song and I really like that it sounds different than any PJ I have heard before. The first thing that came to mind with I heard this song was Robbie Williams "Angels." If this song becomes as popular as that, I am sure PJ wouldn't mind.

    Again, Love IT!!!!

To me, it fits on Plant's Fate of Nations album.

  • If this was by U2 it would be the best thing they've done for about 15 years. In two songs they've shown the depth of the album to come.
Happy up here in my tree

Yeah, it morphs into something more original, but that's definitely the first thing that caught my ear.

It sounds like an 80's butt rock ballad to me. Not trying to be a troll. Just being honest. Hopefully it grows on me. I'm looking forward to hearing Jeff's songs.
