    Wait a second...
Isn't it the dog's hair that is black?
Does that mean that people with black hair... are black?
    ...
If so... then, aren'tblondes really Yellow people?

He should have gotten one of these and then take him into news conferences.

(I'm almost - ALMOST - ashamed at how hilarious I find dogs dressed in outfits; the girl can't help it)

So the next white dude can throw a lawn jockey or two or three and it will all even itself out. Come to think of it, if Obama had a sense of humour, he'd have a few on the lawn.

Surely the "no white dogs" comment was tongue in cheek.

I myself would criticize their broken promise to adopt a shelter dog (now twice-broken). They missed two chances to set a good example, instead getting expensive purebreds. Meanwhile, millions of perfectly adoptable dogs are euthanized every year in shelter.

    Sigh

Wasn't it only because they are allergic to other types of dogs that they got this breed though?

I felt (well, still feel) the same as grooveme regarding adopting vs. paying. I did, however, hear of allergies within the first family.

I hadn't heard of their promise though - surely they were aware of allergies at the time said promise was made?

That was the excuse. However there are many hypoallergenic breeds that don't shed available in shelters, as far as i know

THIS! All of this is merely distraction so that we forget the real problems of the nation. Bread and circuses indeed

That is far from a sure thing.

Did they promise to do that? I hadn't heard that but if true then yes that is kinda lame. I understand the need to buy if there are allergy issues though. I have a shelter dog myself and have lived with several, and you sometimes cannot be sure exactly what you are getting. Especially if it is a puppy.

This is what I found after a quick search - I remembered hearing it but didn't remember where-

President Obama promised author Jana Kohl, who had been lobbying on Capitol Hill to end puppy mills, that he would adopt a dog. He even posed with her three-legged poodle rescued from an abusive breeder in a photo that was carried on the cover of American Dog magazine.

In October 2008, Michelle Obama told Entertainment Tonight that her family would be adopting a shelter dog after the election. The news was welcomed by groups that had been trying to persuade the Obamas to opt for a rescue dog after he’d mentioned they might get a goldendoodle because they’re hypoallergenic.

The First Dog was a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy, who had a dog of the same breed. I read that up until then they were still planning to get a shelter dog.
