Throw Your Arms Around Me by Hunters and Collectors. I also love Crazy Mary by Victoria Williams. PJ do both songs exceptionally. :D

I don't know about random but a good one off was REM - It Happened Today in Calgary 11. It was really fiitting that a song recorded in Berlin around the 10th anniversary of Roskilde featuring EV on vocals was the one they chose to mark the choice that day by Stipe and Co. to call it a day as a band. It looked like Ed was going to give them a solo acoustic send off and then the whole band kicked in for a fantasic finale. I still miss REM more than any other band...

"Rockin in the Free World," "Sonic Reducer," "Soldier of Love," "Leavin' Here," "Baba O'Riley," and come to find out, "Crazy Mary," etc,.. are staples in the Pearl Jam live arsenal.

Are there any really rare or one off covers?

Also, Let My Love Open the Door, and

In 2003, they played "Know your rights" by The Clash maybe 7 or 8 times. The first time was Melbourne 2003. This one was intense. The band had this nervous energy you could cut with a knife. This was the 1st time playing a song like this. It was intense and amazing. All of the other times, the ice had been broken and they sounded increasingly hammed up. But that 1st one in Melbourne was out of this world. They followed it up with a couple of rarities, including Breath. I think they figured if something went terribly wrong with Know your Rights, people would soon forget during Breath. The combo of KYR and Breath made for an epic night.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

i really love this cover too (and was trying to save it for someone else to mention, lol)
but do you really think the Death Cab version is the best?
Death Cab for me, the voice and all, is like what Sleater-Kinney must be to so many (i personally loved S-K)
and I think the 2000 versions are far superior.
You like this one better, though? (not a setup, just curious)
If I was to smile and I held out my hand

  • also like to throw out Daytime Dillema which i REALLY wish they had played more :( :( :(
and so you wanna be a rock n roll star
    :D

[and while we are talking about the Byrds, a cover of Feel A Whole Lot Better would be fun, someday. :D ]

I like the tempo of the 2004 version better, but to be honest the two versions are almost like two different songs like Lukin and slow Lukin, and Eddie's voice is so different, I smoked a bowl and listened to both, I would give each one in the 8 to 9 region on a scale of one to 10, so 8.5 buds each from this judge

Matter of fact, I have a post on my long since neglected blog about my attachment to "Someday at Christmas." It is a little out of season, but...http://www.idistortion.com

  • a couple of more obscure-ish favorites, two from CFAR @ Wiltern:
Little Hands (Skip Spence) and Ball And Chain (Social D.) both available as a "complete" download at spreading the jam.

    Stevie Van Zandt - I Am A Patriot Bridge '92 -- CHILLING

and a bunch that are just Ed...

Eddie and REM - Begin The Begin
for the dancing alone, if nothing else. REM was my hero before PJ arrived. :D

    Talking Heads - Love>>Building On Fire (C-Average & Ed)

Kings Of Leon - Slow Night, So Long - Ed w KOL, Werchter

Cheap Trick - Surrender Ed w CT

    Tom Petty - The Waiting - Ed w TP&THB

    my response

There she lays staring at me
There she plays waiting for me
Her hair so colorful and free
Her eyes shine like crytals in the sky
Then she asks me "do you want to get high"
My reply is short and swift
As I hold and caress and lift
    Her slowly towards my lips
She makes me dream of pipes and paper ships
Her kiss is so soft and sweet
Now this is one girl every guy would love to meet
    She has many other lovers
But her crazy mind her crazy mind discovers
Secrets hidden deep within my mind
Girls like her a really hard to find
I really do not care who she loves other than me
Because her love is unconditional you see
Anyway, all my time would be spent in vain
Trying to find a lover as good as Mary Jane
