The Greatest Band You've Never Heard Of: The Story of Bender

Here's a new editorial I wrote on the obscure 90's/early 2000's band Bender who released Jehovah's Hitlist in 2000. Really a great band, enjoyed talking to them for this.

    Just given them a listen on spotify, some pretty good tunes there. I think there were a number of decent alt-rock bands that missed the boat - Mayfield Four are a prime example, if their album Second Skin had come out in the early-mid 90's they would have been huge, it's by far the best record Myles Kennedy has made (very different to Alter Bridge and the work he's done with Slash). But by the time it came out in 2001 the nu-metal scene had taken over and they fell by the wayside.

    haha if you read the article, it was randomly picked out of a shoe and was the drummer's idea.

    I think there some good bands in the late 90's and early 2000's who missed the boat because Creed were so overexposed and there was nu metal, it was just a weird time. There was still a post Grunge burnout.

    Yeah I read the article, the term 'bender' is a homophobic term here in the UK!

    Yeah it was a weird time, pretty much all the original alt-rock bands were either defunct or going through 'experimental' phases, so instead of the cream rising to the top, it was just whatever happened to be catchy enough with decent marketing.
