I agree with you...even though some may argue to no avail......

    it's missing the intensity....Live 06-19-2008 Camden

Matt doesn't do SOLAT any justice, or most of the pre yield stuf.

Agreed...Love Matt... But in studio, No Code and Yield are hands down the best drum sounding albums (Jack behind the kit!!)....same producer

I read it and was agreeing with you. Just emphasizing that Matt doesn't do justice to a lot of songs. We're good here.

Nothing but love for Jack's drumming and drum sounds. I realise it's a matter of personal taste but to my hears he was the best drummer for the band at a time when the band was most interesting live and in the studio.

Speaking of his drum sounds, take a listen to Mirrorball and Merkinball, particularly the sound of the drums on the studio version of Long Road. That sound is just the greatest, IMHO.

His drumming had a fluidity that really worked for PJ. I love the end of All Those Yesterdays btw. Shine on Your Crazy Diamond is also amazing.

I am hoping some new sounds or even heavier drumming comes from Matt on Lightning Bolt. He has some great drumming on King Animal. That is such a great disk! I am hoping Pear Jam can top it as it has some classics. Blood on the valley floor is awesome. Just listen to it!!!

Matt best drumming is ... Jesus Christ pose
Jack is on No Code....in my tree

I think the heaviness of Soundgarden fits Matt's drumming style better though... I love King Animal; the drumming just drive the songs. PJ has always been an bit lighter though.

I hate hearing Matt play Jack's songs. In My Tree has never been the same.

Matt isn't capable of playing Jack, or Dave's, songs. Matt sounds good playing the songs he wrote, but anything prior sounds awful. In My Tree, Given to Fly, Lukin, Corduroy, Even Flow, and Daughter are some that stick out as just terrible when Matt plays them.

I had the pleasure to experience Jack Irons' skills at my first show, in Berlin 1996. That In My Tree is otherwordly. No Code is one of my faves.

But I do have a lot of love for Mr. Cameron too :shifty: If I remember correctly, Jack Irons quit because he couldn't or didn't want to handle. The stress, the physical exhaustion, the fame ...? I don't remember what it was exactly. I am happy that I got to see him with PJ, but I think every thing has it's time.

But yeah, this is the good shit!

I believe that he couldn't handle it due to his anxiety and bipolar disorder. No gossip btw. Jack made numerous statements in media outlets and I was happy that he gave some notice to these disorders.

Matt Cameron is one of my top 5 drummers, but he's so much better suited for SG. I don't LOVE him for PJ.

Jack is my favorite drummer for PJ, hands down. While I love a lot of what has come since, I feel like Yield was the last truly great album, front to back. The 1st 5 PJ albums each hold such a special place in my heart, I can't rank them. I truly love No Code and Yield as much as Ten.

I agree with the drummer who thinks JI is sloppy, but I'm ok with that; (Drums on Brain of J make that song for me.)

Also happy to see In My Tree getting so much love. My favorite PJ song. Period. No debate or hesitation for me on that one.

It is a very difficult subject to talk about or for some who can't hear the difference. I am sure no one has a true winning argument on this subject. But, as a drummer, I love the DRUMS on No Code so much! Listen to the ending of In My Tree...amazing sound!

Oddly, switching a drummer is as noticeable as switching a singer..

You would think that switching a guitar player would be very noticeable, and it would be for solos, but I think less noticeable in the guts of a song..

I think it is very unfair to say Matt does some songs no justice.. If you were to get another drummer or even Jack back, the songs that Matt did wouldn't sound right.. Just a fact.. Nobody can play like Matt, nobody can play like Jack.. Nobody could sing like Eddie, etc.. I personally like Matt the most on drums. Guy is a fucking beast, and he sings great back-up for Ed..
