Anyone else notice the close similarities between these two albums?

1)Both are fairly experimental
2)Both have a hard hitting (somewhat short) rock song in the beginning: Immigrant Song/Hail Hail
3)Both have at least one blues influenced song: Red Mosquito/Since I've Been Loving You
4)Both have a wide range of folk/softer songs on the albums

Anyone else agree?

Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

i like the comparison.. two great albums.. I went from a huge Led Zeppelin fan to the 1980s. Thought I'd never listen to music again.. then Pearl Jam came and saved me :)

Same here, although for me Yield and No Code are tied for first. There is no comparable Zeppelin album to LZ III, maybe Houses of the Holy but I still think III is just a little bit better.

And keep in mind that No Code starts with Sometimes.

I did keep that in mind, that's why I said 'beginning' not 'first song'. And I disagree with No Code being a "hard" album. In fact I think it's the least hard album that they have (except for maybe Yield). The only true heavy songs on No Code are Hail Hail, Red Mosquito, Habit, Lukin, and Mankind (a deal can maybe be made for Smile). As for the rest, Sometimes, Who You Are, In My Tree, Off He Goes, Present Tense, I'm Open, Around the Bend they are all (for the majority) not hard songs. And even if they were, LZIII has softer songs that appear to be somewhat hard as well. For instance Friends starts off much like In My Tree, with a drum segment that progresses and gets louder. Another example, Tangerine starts off low and mellow but gets louder during the chorus, much like Present Tense does. So with all this evidence sir, I respectfully disagree with you. Have a lovely day.

Always thought that mainly cause of the way they both came back big on their next albums and restablished themselves.

Hey, you called me sir... now I feel old ;)
  • I agree. Have always thought they held sonic similarities, in the breadth of their sonic textures and the creativity displayed.

Always thought the album cover was more reminiscent of PT\Ronnie Lane's "Rough Mix" album, though.

PS- the vinyl version of LZ 3 - the album cover is dope.
