Anyone found any good deals for hotels in LA? Trying to find the best area, doesn't have to be close to the venue. Trying to be near Santa Monica if possible but that looks pricey. Any tips?

I booked a room at the Westin Bonaventure, I'm not sure how close that is to Santa Monica.
They have a deal where if you book 2 nights the second nights rate will be equal to your birth year.
So for me the two nights came to about $300 including taxes. Not sure if that's in your price range
but I didn't think it was too bad of a deal for a Westin.

Westin Bonaventure is downtown, which is a good location for venue access, but nowhere near Santa Monica. It is/was a drab and depressing hotel, but I believe they've done renovations.

Santa Monica will be expensive. You can probably find deals either downtown or Hollywood. Check Culver Hotel in Culver City as well. Cool hotel, lots of restaurants and bars nearby, and near the Expo Metro Train Line, which will take you very close to the venue.

Being by the venue isn't terribly important but thanks for the tips. We looked at Century City. That seems to be in the middle of a lot of things from what I can tell.

There's not a lot to do at night in Century City, but it's a short cab ride to Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc.

I booked a priceline hotel downtown and it turned out to be the Miyako. All in it was $280 for 3 nights. I'm pretty excited!

Little Tokyo! Just moved from there. Great restaurants and a couple good bars. The Escondite for beer and live music, americana. If you like jazz... the Blue Whale.

Thanks! We are arriving Friday night and leaving for Oakland on Monday morning, so the only night life we'll be checking out is PJ, but thanks for the tips!

The Westin Bonaventure was featured in the Clint Eastwood movie, "in the line of fire". It has those big glass columns. It sort of reminds me of what was really cool yesteryear. It is in the part of downtown where all of the large financial skyscrapers are. Where all the working people scatter like roaches from when it turns dark. The area is safe to walk around but if you're walking around at night, you'll find it very desolate. A lot of the shops inside their windows with for lease signs. Honestly, if you have a car, I would check out places like the Portofino in Redondo Beach. There's a lot to do in Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan beaches. That's not far from Marina del Rey and Santa Monica either. Not too far from LAX. The area near the venue, the LA sports arena, is a hole. Oftentimes use for shooting episodes for the series called Cops. There is absolutely no reason to be in that area other than to attend a Pearl Jam concert. During the daytime, there are some museums in the vicinity of the sports arena. Near Staples Center, there is an area called LA live. I know there are some hotels nearby. I believe there is a Marriott, and then north of that, some less known names like the hotel Figueroa. If you're into things like Hollywood, what's nice about that area is you are able to access a lot of things via rail. For example, the blue line goes down to Long Beach and there are great things to see and do in Long Beach. The the red line will take you right into Hollywood. In Hollywood, traffic sucks and parking is worse. The red line takes you right there with no hassle. An area which is pretty cool is old town Pasadena. From downtown, you can take the Goldline to get up there.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

Any locals have any info on the Venice/Marina del Ray areas?
    Thanks

Venice is a nightmare. But there is a nice Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey.
