Cool Wrigley story involving EV's mom!
I was standing outside stadium around 6pm, had just scored a ticket after countless hours of straining (5 months, really) and a friend of mine who hadn't gotten a ticket yet said she was thinking about bailing and going home. Knowing her deep affection for EV, I tried to implore her to stay and shouted, "Chrissie... what the fuck?? EDDIE VEDDER is in this building and about to..."
JUST THEN -- and I'm not exaggerating the timing here -- as my friend Chrissie rolled her eyes and started to turn away (we'd already said goodbye before that final plea), an older woman cut into my personal space (like for reals) and said, "What about Eddie Vedder?"
Just from seeing her face, I knew. I mean I didn't KNOW know, but I knew, ya know?
Me: "Oh, I was just saying to my friend who's thinking about not going that uh...(**mind begins to melt as I further note her bone structure**)
KV: "It's ok, I'm just teasing... I'm Eddie's mom."
Then I did this whole goofy fanboy-stuttering-areyoufuckingKIDDINGME?? thing, and of ALL the things I could've said I decided to tell her the story of how, apparently, a friend of a friend who was delivering groceries in Evanston in the mid-90s met EV one time when delivering groceries to a woman who said, "Hey I want you to come in and meet my son" and it was mid-90s Vedd (a good Vedd indeed).
So our exchange ended with her showing me an all access pass that had "Karen Vedder" printed on it, me asking if she ever had groceries delivered in the mid-90s and her saying, "it's certainly possible!"
Oh, she also told me "he sounded great during sound check, so it should be a good show." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What I should've replied: "Ma'am, your son could walk out 3 hrs late, take a shit in the middle of the stage and say, "Go get fucked, Chicago" and I'd cheer like a wild man then go buy 2 t-shirts and the bootleg!"
