This song epitomizes the band, Pearl Jam, in every way. Each one has a special part to share in the totality of what makes this song great. My favorite song of any one out there.

Fucking unreal the raw emotion. God, I hope this makes the Wrigley set!

I love it that the song starts somewhat on a dark tone and then at the middle turns brighter and the lyrics so well are in line with this change of tone.

I just don't quite understand those who say the lyrics of the song is weak. I think it so well reflects one's inner struggles to cope with difficulties in life as in Mike's case his fight against this health issue.

Need to bump this to break up the ticket threads and Wrigley posts. Please get that show over with

This song is a gem of the last decade from this band. Would love to see it live. Hoping for a good, long, flowing song like this on the new album.

Certainly my fav song off Avocado. It has some of the band's more spiritual lyrics, and it gives so much insight into where Mike goes when he closes his eyes, throws his head back, and plays from a trance. I can picture him "running into the rain to be a human light again." The lyrics remind me so often to take care of what goes on inside me, and the outside consequences will follow.
Thanks for making a thread about the song.

I always visualized this as on opener for a show, but a very long extended intro.

It was the opener for the Las Vegas show in 06 and was fantastic.

I really can't stand Matt's drumming in this song. Fills are boring, he opens his hi-hats at the strangest times and doesn't give the song the right flow it deserves.
    The middle section does nothing...

I do love the intro and beginning verses and the chorus works, but Matt ruins it for me.

I love Matt, but this is his worst effort.

    Sorry.. my two cents...

I disagree.. As a drummer I like the odd time signature with the hi hats... Probably more of a keeping rhythm thing than a sound enhancer... Does that make sense?

Give the Oslo 2012 version a spin.. So well done by everyone in the band! Not even close to the studio version... So much better!
