This is not rocket science...nor should it require it

Hey everyone...

What a week it has been and will be. Before I go any further let me say my heart goes out to you that got shut out yesterday in the lottery. Personally, I won...only putting in for Buffalo res. as 1st choice and Buffalo GA as second...that is all I could commit to schedule/budget wise this time around.

If it makes you feel any better I did lose for London...Stubhubbed at great expense (for two singles)...then won 10C second chance side/rear then ended selling the Stubhub tickets at face and obviously took a massive financial hit on those so I do feel your pain.

The other band that i follow and have seen almost as much as PJ is DMB. Love or hate them they do seem to do an excellent job in terms of tweaking their ticket policies year in and year out for Warehouse members to ensure that fans at least get SOMETHING that they want each an every tour. It should also be said that the other major factor here that is not being discussed is the number of shows that PJ plays vs. other major acts. This also needs to be taken into consideration as I'm not sure I can think of another act where fans will converge from literally all corners of the globe any time a small group of shows is announced. This makes it extremely competitive to get tickets and also very costly...there needs to be some buffer in place be it a two step (pun intended) lottery or some consideration built into the process for seniority AND proximity. If you want a "hometown" show because that's all you can swing you should be able to get it. If you want to make your "pilgrimage" and tie it into your vacation you should have that opportunity. We should never have a system where some people get 5-7 shows while others get shut out. I can't see the boys being okay with this.

Below I have copied the DMB WH ticketing policies from this summer's tour. They work well and I encourage 10C to reach out and investigate matters to see how their lottery system could be adapted to something like this. While all are not satisfied (when does that ever happen anyways) most people get thrown a bone and the fact that the tour is less regional in nature, has more shows and you only select ONE priority spreads out the demand nicely. Oh yeah...and seniority still counts for something! And...AND...you can even request SINGLES!

Interested to hear the thoughts and discussion...

Warehouse Ticketing Changes for 2013 (Futher Expanded)
Priority Show Selection
As a Warehouse member you will be able to select one show per tour for which you may be chosen to receive priority treatment during the random selection process. This does not apply to seating assignments; it only applies to the random drawing for tickets.

There is no guarantee that your priority selection request will be confirmed, however seniority (every single year of continuous membership) will increase your opportunity to receive priority treatment. NOTE: You may still request (and potentially be confirmed) for as many Summer Tour events as you like but only one can be chosen as your 'priority' show for the selection process.
Opt out of lower price levels
During the ticketing request period you will be able to opt out of consideration for certain lower price levels, such as GA Lawn or GA Rear Field if you so wish. Opting out may reduce your chances of being confirmed for tickets to the show if Warehouse inventory is limited at higher price levels.
Premium Ticket Package Options
During the ticket request process you may request both Premium Ticket Packages and regular event tickets. If the request for Premium Tickets is not During the ticket request process you may opt to be considered for regular event tickets at the top price level if you are not chosen to receive Premium Ticket Packages that you have previously requested (limited to 2 tickets).

During the ticket request process you may request both Premium Ticket Packages and regular event tickets. If the request for Premium Tickets is not confirmed, then only the request made for regular event tickets will be considered.

Premium Ticket Package details are as follows:
$250 per ticket, all packages include 2 Tickets ($500 total); Reserved Seat or GA Pit Standing Premium Tickets available

I'm sure most 10c members don't like the tiered (the more $ you spend the better the tickets) structure.

    SHOW COUNT: (170) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=114, US=124, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
    Mexico=1, Colombia=1

Understandable. These aren't available at all shows though and are very limited in number...they aren't just an option if you have cash. The important part is that you can request as many shows as you want but you designate 1 show as your priority. It also lets you opt out of lawn or lesser seats (at the risk of getting none) a credit is given for years of membership without lapsing and you can request single tickets...leaving more for others behind in the pot.

I talked to a big DMB fan yesterday about the new ticket system and he said he quit the fan club because he had a bad membership number anyway and because DMB are touring so often that you are never really desperate, you know they will come around again.
I didn't read the whole thing about the warehouse policy, it sounded too complicated

I think what others in other threads suggested sounds nice. That you choose a show and then select what kind of ticket you would prefer (best available/ only seated/ only GA). Throw all of those selections in a pool and do the lottery drawing. My head exploded from developing possible scenarios and strategies before entering my selections.

...and because DMB are touring so often that you are never really desperate, you know they will come around again.

I maintain that this is still the biggest factor behind all the headaches that everyone has experienced...if you could make that sentence read:

and because PJ are touring so often that you are never really desperate, you know they will come around again then the problem solves itself

DMB tours all over the place and will play anywhere.

    It's a totally different situation.
