Pearl Jam does so many covers, I think it would be great if they got in the studio and made either an entire album of covers or did a "Pearl Jam & Friends" type of album with guest musicians. (After the new album & worldwide tour of course!) Let's Do this! 8-)

  • I've been dreaming of a PJ covers album, i'm happy you mentioned it. Not only do the boys do a ton of covers live, they often do it great. They should definitely release a covers album maybe a year or so after this new record comes out. Rock n' roll!

Yes, I'd like to hear a covers album, maybe a double one to follow Lost Dogs.

I'd sooner see Lost Dogs 2 before a covers album but it would still be quite cool especially if it was all new covers. Some of the covers they play now are getting a bit tiresome. Baba O Riley, RITFW, Sonic Reducer, LROM, Arms Aloft, Crazy Mary etc have been played more than a lot of PJ's own songs that most people would rather hear. I don't mind hearing covers but at least freshen it up a bit. There are some great suggestions on some of the threads on here.

I'd be into it if it didn't cut into touring or putting out original material. They could probably come up with some great covers with a tight studio sound.

This would be spectacular! I like my members of PJ working together, not flying solo...though RNDM is AWESOME! :D

What Green Day song could they cover? Something pre-American Idiot...maybe something from Dookie...like She.

i would rather see more original music myself. a covers album would be a sign that the band isn't writing enough new music

Sounds like the perfect thing to do for the xmas "single". Make a it a 10" with 6 or so covers. Maybe a couple staples with a few new ones.

It's gotta be better than the thrashing of some really great songs that the Foo Fighters put out.
  • I very much enjoy the live covers, from the rares/"OTOTO"s (Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, Can't Help Falling In Love, Don't Be Shy, History Never Repeats, etc.) to the standards (RITFW, Sonic Reducer, I Believe In Miracles, Reign O'er Me, etc.) & enjoy the studio covers also - but to me the live covers are just so special an entire album of studio covers might dilute their specialness to have a studio covers album, although it would undoubtably be great.

Ever since Boom joined I've wanted them to cover Inna-Godda-Da-Vida, I believe it'll be mind-blowing if they do because the drum & organ solos which really allow for extended jamming from Matt & Boom, Iron Butterfly's lead singer has the same Jim-Morrison-esque vocal style as Eddie, & it has some really great heavy guitar riffs that Mike could go crazy with. Maybe someday - until then a guy can dream!

    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • I've always wanted to hear Eddie cover Springsteen's "No Surrender", it would work great either as an Eddie solo acoustic or as a full-band effort. After PJ/EV, Springsteen & Dylan are my favorites so of course I'll like those covers most of all. Really enjoy the treatment they give "Masters Of War".

Pearl Jam could record a few of their covers they already play but don't have in studio quality yet and learn a few new ones to freshen it up a bit. I can't imagine that taking very long, it's not like they're writing lyrics or music for these songs. And since they seem to have settled in a routine of releasing albums every 3 years or so and tour on a semi-retired basis, this would satisfy most fans while we wait til 2017 when the new album most likely will be released.

I'll take more Pearl Jam and less Tres Mts and Moonlander please.

Or they could do another double album of covers/throwaways/misc... and call it Lost Dogs II ... believe it or not, that album came out 10 years ago!

I really like that idea, it's been far too long since Lost Dogs came out, we could definitely use another b-sides/rares/covers/scraps double-album (or box set!) - it'd be cool to call this collection "Stray Cats"; they could even have a Brian Setzer cover on it &/or maybe have Brian Setzer help on a few tracks.
