5 Ways To Prepare For Your Pearl Jam Experience At Wrigley Field

July 2, 2013 4:33 PM
Patrick Kelly

America’s most historic ballpark will once again be the setting for an unforgettable event, when An Evening With Pearl Jam comes to Wrigley Field on Friday, July 19. Will you be there?

Prepare for your Pearl Jam experience at Wrigley Field with these suggestions:

1. Touch up (if you’re not up-to-date) on your Pearl Jam song knowledge.
-With nine studio albums to date, this band has a great history and reputation for making quality tracks and albums. Since they’ve been around awhile, they are sure to be playing selections from several of their albums, not just one. The more you know, the more you can join in with front man Eddie Vedder and sing along.

2. Be ready for non-Pearl Jam songs too.
- If anyone or any band is a master of performing cover songs in addition to their originals, it’s Eddie Vedder with Pearl Jam. You can see Eddie cover or sing along with other artists on stage, such as Tom Petty (“The Waiting”), Roger Waters (“Comfortably Numb”), and Bruce Springsteen (“My City of Ruins”). Pearl Jam’s famous hit “Last Kiss” was actually a cover of the original artist, Wayne Cochran. Regardless of the song, Eddie Vedder (and Pearl Jam) always does the song justice, if not makes it better.

3. Revel in the fact that you will be a part of major history.
-This Pearl Jam concert sold out faster than any other concert held at Wrigley Field, which is a huge deal. For those who don’t know, Wrigley Field has hosted legendary acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Elton John, and more. If you are fortunate enough to have a ticket to this show, be prepared to make and be a part of history.

4. Know that Vedder is an Illinois and Chicago area native.
-Though he moved to California when he was a teenager and Pearl Jam is a Seattle-based band, Eddie Vedder was born in Evanston, Illinois and lived there prior to his move. He is a Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, and die-hard Cubs fan. Eddie Vedder’s song “All the Way” was actually written in tribute to the Chicago Cubs. Therefore, this will be an even more sentimental concert given that connection he has with the audience.

5. You are seeing a band that cares about more than just performing.
-All members of Pearl Jam are board members of the Vitalogy Foundation, which they founded. This organization “supports the efforts of non-profit organizations doing commendable work in the fields of community health, the environment, arts and education and social change” (pearljam.com). For majority of their concerts, $2 from every ticket goes into this foundation. So, you will be seeing a band that is involved in community support, political activism, education, and much more.

I really do believe he (Eddie) will sing something of a local flavor. At least that's what he has done in the past.....

"Sweet Home Chicago" would be a sick, Chicago flavored cover. PJ almost never does straight blues (although it's a major influence of the heavy rock vibe). I think it would be way cool. 8-)

Maybe if the concert was in St. Louis.... You're crazy if you think there are more Cards fans in Chi-town than Cubbie fans during Cubs vs. cards. :nono:
