Can anyone tell me what kind of experience they have had with poster tubes in airports. Is there an issue with traveling with them? Thanks In advance.

I flew a couple times with one last year with no problem. I just carried it on and put it through security with my other bag.

Never had a problem. Just jammed it into back pack the best I could, then threw it in the over head once I got on. It might be a good idea to spend the $10-$15 to get one of the nice plastic artits ones, that's what I have. If anyone ever asks me I just say I'm an architecht or something and it's "sensitive documents", that usually shuts them up.

No problem at all. I carry a BK bazooka tube on tour. Through USA customs, all is good. :)

If you're traveling to many show's in the same country you live in, could always just ship the tube to yourself. I've done that a few times on tour. Went to the local post office early morning before the show or ride to the next show.

I asked my man if he could get me one as he works with architects...he laughed and said they don't use those anymore as everything is going 3D. I did get some cool poster sized poly envelopes though-they were going to be thrown out.
an inexpensive alternative would be getting a 3" chunk of PVC pipe and some endcaps-probably will cost you $5 at Lowe's/Home Depot.

OP-Didn't have any issues when I went to Alpine-had 3 tubes), though I would recommend you putting your name and an address/phone number on the tube...I recall a few people saying they lost their tubes at the airport.

Just mail them home. I've done that from Hawaii. It makes it a lot easier.

Hopefully I'm not in line behind you at the airport when you pull out that home-made pipe bomb and try to explain to security at gun point that it's just for Pearl Jam posters.

Coming back from Alpine Valley with that behemoth tube carring the subway-sized PJ20 poster - the airline made me pay extra for an "extra carry on item". But from others experiences it sounds as though you won't have problems with a "standard" sized tube. Good luck.

Yep, no problem whatsoever. I flew out from Alpine with the bazooka tube, and just stuck in my backpack and zipped it up around the tube with it sticking out. Carried it right on and through security and no one gave me the business. Wasn't a problem at all.

Hopefully the stars will align, and there will be an outside merch booth that opens early at Wrigley, as well as a post office close-by!

I like the way you think and google maps says there are 2 pretty close by, 1 L stop away it looks like:

    3635 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL ‎
1343 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL ‎

Even better there are 2 UPS stores even closer:

3501 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL
3712 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL

There is also a Fedex Office store pretty close if you prefer them:

    3524 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL ‎
"Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit."

outside merch is a terrible idea for an event like this especially at wrigley.

I think ur right on with it being a terrible idea. Instead of just tickets being sold out and scalped right outside the doors so will every poster, shirt, flag etc. People will do anything to make a buck and u better believe there would be jags capitalizing. It could possibly be solved with them checking tickets of the people they are selling merch to, possibly a wristband system of some sort but I think thats asking too much.

Yeah. My advice is don't turn your back on them- I had all my Canadian tour posters stolen in the airport on the way back home from Vancouver by a guy in a brown EV solo show t-shirt. If I ever find out who you are- you and I are going to be having a little wordless convo, btw

4 tubes? Hopefully that's the only things you brought on board. No other baggage with you to put above the cabin if you were flying an American Airlines flight. I came back from Las Vegas last week on 4 American Airlines flights. (Las Vegas, Boston, Washington, Newark), and it was so awful that we could only bring one belong on board. The others were to be checked in or left before we went inside the plane by this elevator door that would take our packages close to the other luggage's on board.

    +1

If you live in the USA, and are doing many PJ USA show's, that's the best way to do it. Ship them at your local post office. But seeing there's only 1 PJ show this month in the USA, bringing one on board shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure it's safely secure in a Yazoo http://www.yazoomills.com/mailing-tubes.aspx poster tube or a BK bazooka tube. If it's a tube you bought @ Business Depot / Staples, run for your life!!!
