Please Don't Play The Family Card

Before I start, hear me out. Read this with an open mind and get your lips off the ass of PJ.

Anyways, I often complain about PJ not touring much in the US lately. And I'm almost always (like 90% of the time) met with this response: "You don't understand dude, they all have families now!!". That pisses me off so much.

I understand completely that family comes first. And I know that the guys from PJ want to spend time with their wives and children while they're still considerably young. But have you ever thought of it this way? Think of families all over the world. Parents go off to work EVERY SINGLE WEEK DAY. They struggle with money and putting their kids through college.

If PJ were to announce a 15 date tour, that'd take like one month away from their family. AND they could take the family along during the summer. So why do you people feel so bad for PJ and their families? They'll never have to worry about money. And they spend more time with their kids than you do with yours (if you do have kids). Being In the band is their job. Part of the job is going out on the road. So I think it's time they start doing just that.

Are you kidding me with this nonsense? Who the fuck cares? Only they know the answers to why they do what they do and they have to answer to no one. We're lucky they do anything. We're lucky they never broke up. That none of the band members died tragically. That they put out side projects. That they haven't totally cut themselves off from all of this bullshit by disappearing. I need a drink...

We're all foaming at the mouth for a tour announcement and actual shows.

People need to stop over analyzing things and find something else to do until the time comes.

Well lets see...they ARE still a band. They are all still alive. They haven't disappeared. So why don't they tour? When a band is still together and well, they usually hit the road. I am grateful for them giving us the music and everything. But I want to give them my money to see them. Nothing wrong with that.

I bet... that with any job... you've been doing for the past 20 years... it wears on you. I mean, aren't you tired of doing the same thing for the past 20something years in your career? I know, i get that way. If I could not work and still have a lot of money to do shit that I like doing... I'd do it. Like, if I had kids, i would much rather take them to Hawaii than sit in this cubicle every week day.
And if Pearl Jam decided to retire tomorrow... i'd be okay with that, too. They don't owe me anything... i just happen to enjoy the trip theyve taken me on. i wish I could retire tomorrow.

So, i guess i don't have an argument against you... maybe, just a little advice. Don't expect them to do as you want... just accept what happens and enjoy the moment. You are owed nothing... so, don't expect anything.

Being a Beach Boy must kind of suck... can you imagine playing 'Surfin' U.S.A.' for the Gazillionth time?

I just saw them on their 50th tour. It sucked. And they did it only for the money.

Maybe they re kids or wives can't travel with them. Have you every been away from your own kids for three weeks or a month? Let me tell you being away from your kids for a week is a long time. I can t imagine a month.

i believe this is the number 1 reason..and as i notice the last years,they take family with them on tour when they visit europe,its summer,no schoold for kids etc

They're never going to tour as much as they used to again... whether it's families, side projects, wanting to enjoy their money... they worked hard to get where they are, and I would take it easy if I were them too.

And I'd rather them just play a few shows here and there at this point. When they were touring a lot, Eddie's voice got hoarse. Now when they do their short tours, he sounds great at every show. A lot of jam bands can tour like crazy until they're almost dead because their vocal parts aren't that demanding... Pearl Jam isn't that kind of band.

To be honest I don't think Ed's voice can handle a 30/40 date tour now and pretty much every tour they do now he ends up ill towards the end of it so with a bigger tour its just not going to cut it. 15 dates/3 weeks at a time seems to be the best mix all round for the band, for their families and for Ed's voice.

At the end of the day they know their limitations and if short tours are what works for them then I'm happy with that.

how old is he 46-47? how the hell does Bono do a 2 year plus tour every 5 years then ... or Jagger every 5 years or so into his 60's or Springsteen or Bon Jovi or all the other aging rockers out there and there are a ton.

Personally I'd rather see a tour every 4-5 years with new music like U2 or Springsteen does. But unfortunately PJ appears to be a nostalgia act these days.
