Reading through this it jumps out at me that some suggest Eddie got a fanbase based on his politics and activism
Id think I'm speaking for the masses that I got into pj for the music - and the music only. It got me by the balls and still does. Sure it was angry at times but at times not.
But did I start to like the band more because they fought ticketmaster? Well that's a resounding no.
And I think someone said somewhere - you have to pay 35k to see Eddie play... Well actually that ROTFLMAO....the auction is to have dinner with a very successful ex president of the USA. One admired round the world. Eddie is just a bonus to the evening - and why not? It sounds perfect when you think about it?
I'd love to know why the conversation would be awkward too... These all seen very down to earth approachable people who have interesting thoughts. I'd love to hear the banter at that table.
When it's all said and done how dare Ed use his well earned profile to raise money for a cause he obviously cares about and in doing so exclude his average fan... I mean how dare he ?

It seems some people don't like Ed doing this kind of thing, it's too 'Hollywood Ed'. Whatever that means. Personally I don't care what he does as long as he is still making good records

Certainly the masses are in it for the music.
But Ed was labeled the voice of the generation early on. The lyrics were very politically and socially charged. The concerts were filled with political and social rhetoric and speeches. Ripping on advertisements in venues and bands that "wanted to be famous". I don't think there is any doubt that part of PJ's rise to fame was due to their anti-establishment voice. It is clear in the Moving Train forum that if Pearl Jam were a Republican band that a lot of people would have left this band a long time ago, or not been as die hard of fans.
Rarely does an article about Pearl Jam not mention their politics. It was an important part of their image. I don't think you can deny that. The fan base would be completely different if this was a Republican band or a band that took no political or social stance. I can't say what it would look like but it would be different.
I don't think if I discovered the band now that I would be a die hard fan. They are just like any band now: play a few shows for cash, sell some shirts, etc... I don't sense what I sensed in 1998 when I thought they were all about the music and art and playing live shows. Maybe it is too difficult for them to put shows on, but if you were a singer I can't figure out why you wouldn't play a concert in your hometown every once in a while.
anyone know what he played? that is what interests me.
Lolla Alpine Valley 8/29/92 ,Key Arena 11/5/00 , Key Arena 11/6/00, NOLAJazzfest 5/1/10, Wrigley 7/19(20)/13, SD 11/21/13, LA 11/23/13, LA 11/24/13, Bridge School 2014, Wrigley 8/20/16, Wrigley 8/22/16, Seattle 2018 both nights! Chicago 9/5/23 and 9/7/23
EV Long Beach 7/6/11 , LA Wiltern (miracled in) 7/8/11, EV Benaroya Hall 10/24/23
I just saw a pic and got "Yeah, Eddie stayed for dinner, but Clinton didn't play any sax...." Like 99% of the folks at an event like this could name any pearl jam, yet alone eddie song.... but I got one more quote, "Eddie is a really nice guy."
One other thing came of it all, had no clue, had my fingers crossed...
I mean we're all ready if you think someone's gonna meet Eddie, aren't we? Rip out your wallet and produce...
