So I got my turntable and have been picking up records on the cheap. I grabbed Rick Springfield's Living in Oz.
It rocks! It sounds a lot like Pearl Jam stuff. Seriously...the guitar is awesome, the words are cool, the groove is good, the singing is good...it's a damn good record. I highly recommend it.
But here's the truth...
He was my first concert in '83 and I became a fan. This is the first time I have listened to it since I was 13 but now I know exactly why I love Pearl Jam...they copied Rick Springfield!

My sister loved this guy growing up so I listened to all his stuff as well. General Hospital was an awful show.otter wrote:So I got my turntable and have been picking up records on the cheap. I grabbed Rick Springfield's Living in Oz.

Here is the newspaper review of the show. Actually it was 84. Corey Hart opened and it was his first live performance ever. I remember parts of his set too.
JK never saw him on tv.
If you find this record cheap get it... I paid 3 bucks.I found my place......and it's alright0 -

Is there a requirement for Australians to like Rick Springfield, kind of like how the Canadians are with their bands?

Seriously though, Jessie's Girl is a great pop song. I even liked the title song from the movie he did "Hard to Hold". I remember my mom and aunt going out on a "girl's night" to see that one. He was a darling of MTV back in the day.0 -

That song from that movie is Love Somebody. That's a good rock song.
I bet if he weren't such a pretty boy he would have been more popular. Seriously, the dude can shred!

The "Living in Oz" record has some good rockers on it. Motel Eyes is cool as shit.
Her 'Come on' was direct and strong from her question to her kiss
She said she'd had a little much to drink, she didn't usually do this
But she was looking for another head to scalp tonight
And she had me right between her sights
I turned to face her as the jukebox, clicked off playing a favorite song
And she looked pretty in the low lit bar but something was wrong
I saw a dull red neon sign flashing in her eyes
It said vacancy, she had motel eyes
They were black as the night and shone like a star
Fueled by the light from a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes there's no disguising motel eyes
She had the angles all down pat her average must be high
And though it could have been a pleasure, I just had to say goodbye
Though there was something wicked
'Bout the way she flexed her thighs, she scared me with her motel eyes
They were black as the night and shone like a star
Fueled by the light from a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes there's no disguising motel eyes
She started saying something 'bout movement versus size
The sign kept flashing in her motel eyes
They were black as the night and shone like a star
Fueled by the light from a medicine jar
I looked again but there was nothing there
But ice in her eyes there's no disguising motel eyes
Black as the night

Wow. I almost made it through that. The man is talented. But in that venue, I don't think I could make it through an Eddie Vedder performance. :fp:0 -

Hey ... We've apologized for Nickelback, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne and I'm sure a few others, but we did give the world Rush and Neil Young

I think he got pretty huge with his string of hits. When has being a pretty boy worked against somebody being more popular?
I think his song is one of the better ones from the Sound City soundtrack and I was surprised how distinct it sounded.0 -
I saw him last night in a stripped down solo show.. I got tickets in the 4th row center. He told hilarious stories and totally rocked. He took questions after and I got the last question. I just asked him to play another song or two and he did! It was great!
64 and still rocking hard!I found my place......and it's alright0
