RSD remorse

So, I go & get a handful of records today. I get home. I listen to them. Love it.

Then I start kicking myself for passing up all the other things I saw & passed on. Bummer. RSD REMORSE (just coined phrase)

Am I alone with this feeling?

    I get it every year.

I always end up going back that night or a couple days later. Sometimes I score some good stuff later on that I couldn't find on RSD.

  • I just couldn't help myself today...I went in with a 18 things on a wishlist (by no means thinking I could get them all) and I just started going down the list and she just kept coming back with album in hand. Only strike out was the Dave Matthews set. She pulled 17 albums in about 3-5 minutes and the pressure was on as 100+ people were in line behind me, so I pulled the impulse trigger and bought them all.

    No remorse here.

I wanted five lp's and didn't get one of them. I wanted:

    1. Mad Season
    2. At the Drive-In
    3. Soundgarden
    4. Porno for Pyros
    5. Public Enemy

I am just getting over a flu and waited in line for over an hour when it was raining and like 50 degrees out (IN FLORIDA!!!). The kid in front of me got the last At the Drive-In and they were sold out of everything else.

I think people were shocked that I wasn't mad, etc...

I look at it this way... This is a celebration A celebration of memories when I was a kid and would stare at album covers for hours (I mean take a look at Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time someday). I saw a father taking his kid to share the experience. And most important, it's a celebration that I STILL have a record store in my local community!!! That's worth celebrating. And I did. I bought some of my B-list items and went back later in the day to buy more.

Anyone that is within driving distance of a Record Store should be grateful today.

    Happy Record Store Day Everyone!!!

It was actually kinda funny and I felt a little peer pressure. We all knew that we would go up one at a time to the counter with our list and get what we wanted if they had it. People waiting in line were clapping and cheering when the girl came back with requested LP. When people were cheering, clapping and hooting about what a roll I was on I felt obligated to buy them all so I did not kill to vibe in the record store. I could only imagine what people in line would have said if I handed back some of the LP's after she pulled them for me.

PS: Spinning Mad Season now...wow it sounds sweet!

I regret not going now that I looked at everyone's haul in the other thread. :fp: I was being financially responsible. I knew that if set foot in the store I'd go hog wild, and try an justify it by saying I was treating myself on my bday. I had to save myself from myself! But I will be upset if the non-RSD Mad Season vinyl isn't released widely soon! (That release is fact, not rumour, right?!)

I didn't find the DMB vinyl for Leeze so I saved my money

Better spent at the grocery store this week.

My only regret was the parking ticket.

The first place I went to had all the ones on my list except for Soundgarden. So I went to this other one a few blocks over when they opened. I got their 10 mins early (9:50) and it was a loading zone, then free parking at 10am. I figured, who was going to care about 10 minutes? I got a $30 parking ticket, and the Record store (lyle's place) had an abyssmal selection of RSD vinyl. I was 2nd in line. There was nothing there of note. They shouldn't of posted on facebook that they had new rsd suppliers this year.. ugh....

The only vinyl I was on the fence about was Blind Melon. It wasn't on my list but I impulse bought it. I'm glad I did.

If anyone grabbed an extra Blind Melon to sell please sell it to me! If my record store had gotten it in, I would have lined up. That is the one I REALLY want! Thx!

Porno for pyros (vinyl is amazing looking btw)
Dazed and confused never before pressed( hand #'d)
    Blind melon

seems like alot of ppl might be misinterpreting my meaning...the remorse is from the fact that I couldn't buy more!...not that I had a bad experience

I had both a Cyprus hill and and a BIG in hand, but put em back.... And didn't find a Soundgarden yet , but that'll be easy enough to score...

Spinning it now...glad we picked it up. It sounds great. 90's recordings that were originally recorded in analog make great pressings. Only remorse is the $$ we spent. Date night last night, vinyl shopping today, expensive weekend. :D

I might have inadvertently derailed it. My point was actually that even though I did not score any of the items on my A list, I have no remorse either. RSD for me is a celebration of music rather than scoring that limited edition record, etc...

I am happy that my record store is still here.

I didn't leave my house yesterday, and i have absolutely no remorse...

RSD for me isn't worth it. The big vinyl shop in Houston, Cactus Music, will have a lineup that starts forming Thursday night. If you're no down in line on Saturday morning by 5 am, you're not getting anything...

Not to mention their prices. It bothers me that RSD people don't set the prices, cause Cactus seems to gouge all of their customer brutally on that day... I mean $45 for a single LP? No.

To me RSD isn't worth the hassle. My collection is only small and still growing, so there's lots of non-limited release stuff that I don't have to spend 7 hours of my saturday waiting in line for...

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to pick up a few items yesterday (The Last Waltz, DMB live tracks, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes) but I've got no remorse for how I spent my saturday.

Sounds like most people here got what they wanted! Congrats and Enjoy! :D:D
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

Thats how I felt when RSD first started. I don't quite feel that way anymore. I frequent my local record store quite often (so I don't need two RSD's a year to get me in there).

For me RSD is this day where there are bunch of really cool releases, but if I don't get in the store right away, and the store managed to get enough copies, and the release is permitted outside the US, I might get a copy.

To be fair this was my favorite RSD in about 3 years (since the one where Foo Fighters Medium Rare and Nirvana's Hormaoning came out). There were cool people in the lineup, and most of the releases I wanted had multiple copies. Maybe RSD is trying to limit the "1500" copies only editions. Then again if someone attempted to go to the record store an hour after I did, they would of been out of luck.

If you would still like the Last Waltz, I'd be happy to pick one up for you. There were plenty at one of the stores. Then you can still say you didn't have to wait in a crazy line to get something cool :D
  • I cant believe some record shops are making their prices so high. I haven't seen that at the record shops i've been to in the past thankfully. Sounds like everyone is pretty happy about their purchases though :D

My remorse is that I didn't make it to the store yesterday. I'll be in heaven when I can go this week. Hopefully there will be something left.

I agree about the good old days of looking at album covers. I'm glad they're back on the shelves now. CrazyGeo, Iron Maiden is a pretty cool one.
