GUN CONTROL VOTE FAILS IN SENATE

With Vice President Joe Biden presiding over the Senate, an amendment to expand background checks on gun purchases failed to pass through the body, falling by a mostly partisan vote of 54-46.

Sixty votes were needed to pass the legislation through the Senate. Four Democrats voted no on the measure. All but four Republicans voted no.

It is a failure of common sense. It should have passed.

States have background checks ...gun owners just don't want to be on some UN list....They also don't want crap to pass that has hidden agendas......we want to know what EXACTLY is written in this law....like who is going to be the judge and what criteria will they use when deeming some one is not eligible to own a gun.....seems people have smartened up since passing the Obama Care without reading it....

Gun owners? From what I've gathered, most gun owners supported this. It was political wrangling that decided this vote, not what gun owners want. If that were the case, it would have passed.

We are right to look at our Congress with disgust. They have earned it. And they remind us of that all the time.

go here to see how your senator voted. The second one must be some BS Republican law that says it is for gun control but obviously isnt based on the voting.

The first is the real gun control bill.

Canadians and Europeans don't understand it because they are rational people who haven't been brain washed by the NRA. Living in America is pretty disgusting these days. So many people that think watching Youtube videos makes them educated on what is REALLY happening.

I had a few good conversations with Canadians while on vacation in Mexico in January. They just thought it was a joke. Fox News, the propaganda from gun lobbies, health care. They just couldn't wrap their minds around it. These were farmers and hunters, not large city residents either. Winning political battles has become more important than doing the sensible thing.

This bill did NOT create a list or database for gun owners. In fact it strictly stated that such a list could not be created. It was simply to put the same checks into place at gun shows and internet sales that are in place for purchases made from registered dealers.

Let them know now! Find your senator and email them. Let them know you will not vote for them because of how they voted on this bill. They probably wont care or see but if enough people do maybe it will help.

Are you sure it's the second? Seems like the vote aligns to the first. I'm more inclined to think it's the first since my douchebag senators McConnell and Paul voted nay on that one which is in line with their beliefs. I am so annoyed that a background check couldn't even pass but good on Obama for blasting them!
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Yes, you are right. I got them mixed up. Corrected. Thanks. I agree I really liked his speech, it was very "no bullshit".
