something that could have been done had the assault weapons ban not been allowed to expire. something that could have been prevented if congress acted after columbine.

these things have happened in the past.

Don't states with the strictest gun laws have the highest crime ratings involving guns?
It really pisses me off. Like who the fuck do these government reps think they are to tell me what I need and don't need. If I want an ar15 or an ak47 to protect my home then I should be able to have one. Fuck all the Joe Biden and Pierce Morgans of the world! I'll bitch slap them bitches 2 times!0 -

The point is we are law abiding citizens. The government has no right to tell us what they think we need for protection. It's none of their fucking business. They can pass all the gun laws in the world. Ain't gonna change a fuckin thing in a crazy persons head.0 -

More people are getting killed in red states than blue states.

"Pooh-poh this if you like, since it comes from the Center for American Progress, but the group just released a big study showing that--across 10 measures like the number of firearms homicides, number of total firearm deaths (including accidents etc.), law enforcement agents killed by firearms, and so on--the deadliest states are those with the most lax gun laws.
The "top" 10: Louisiana, Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi, South Carolina, New Mexico, Missouri, Arkansas, and Georgia.
Now I know conservatives are thinking: No way these places are deadlier than New York and other states with big cities that have very violent neighborhoods. But according to CAP, New York and New Jersey, for example, rank 46th and 47th in gun violence. The full "bottom" 10: Nebraska, Maine, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Iowa, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Hawaii. That's basically a combination of sparsely populated states and states with strong gun laws."___________________________________________

Someone credible? Or just Michelle Malkin?
The Malkin Award – named after blogger, Michelle Malkin, is for shrill, hyperbolic, divisive and intemperate right-wing rhetoric. Ann Coulter is ineligible – to give others a chance.

MARYLAND: A Tough New Gun Safety Law
http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepoliti ... afety-law/A sweeping new law, passed Wednesday by the Maryland House of Delegates, will require the fingerprinting of gun buyers, mandate background checks, restrict availability of weapons to the mentally ill, and ban certain kinds of assault weapons and magazines of more than 10 bullets.
The 78-61 vote sends the legislation back to the Senate, which has passed a similar version of the gun safety bill.
Gov. Martin O'Mally of Maryland rallies supporters of new gun safety law, with background checks, firearms training and fingerprinting, outside legislature in Annapolis. It is likely to become law.
“Our state shouldn’t settle for being in the top 10 most violent states in America: There are a lot of lives that can be saved. The tragedy in Newtown (Conn.) gave us the inflection point, the ability to forge a consensus that prior to that awful tragedy might not have been possible,” Gov. Martin O’Malley, a Democrat, told the Washington Post.
Washington and Maryland acted in tandem last year on the issue of same-sex marriage. The legislatures of each state voted for marriage equality, a decision ratified by Washington and Maryland voters when the issue was put to a vote in November.
But this year, the Washington state House of Representatives failed to muster the necessary 50 votes to pass a much more modest background-check bill, designed to close the so-called “gun show loophole.” An estimated 40 percent of the state’s gun sales are made with no background check.
Maryland will join Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey in its fingerprinting requirement.
The buyers of some guns will need to pass training and testing, and be issued an ID card by the Maryland State Police that must be renewed every 10 years.
The legislation exempts the owners of hunting rifles and shotguns.
New York and Colorado — site of the Aurora, Colo., massacre last summer — have passed new gun safety laws. Connecticut is likely to do so soon. President Obama spoke in Colorado on Wednesday, pressing Congress to pass legislation requiring background checks and limiting the size of ammunition clips.
“If we’re really going to tackle this problem seriously, then we’ve got to get Congress to take the next step,” Obama said. “And as soon as next week, they will be voting. As soon as next week, every senator will get to vote on whether or not we should require background checks for anyone who wants to purchase a gun.”
A new national Marist poll, done for NBC News, on Wednesday showed 87 percent support for background checks, including more than 80 percent of Republicans.
But, noted Obama, “This is not easy. And I’ll be blunt — a lot of members of Congress, this is tough for them. Because those who are opposed to any form of legislation affecting guns, they’re very well organized and they’re very well financed. But it can be done if enough voices are heard.”*We CAN bomb the World to pieces, but we CAN'T bomb it into PEACE*...Michael Franti

why would anybody register all their guns ? that will never happen.
with all the laws and "protective" eyes on the American citizen it would be nice to know that if the day should ever come when the govenerment trys to take our guns they can't look for something they don't know is there..
as one of you said "it's non of their business" if I own a gun or not especially if I am not a convicted fellon.

So most people will freely register their automobiles ... but balk at the suggestion of registering guns - what kind of logic is that? If your a law abiding citizen ... why do you care if the government knows you have guns?
Here in Canada we had a gun registry ... it was just recently gotten rid of ... my only real complaints with the registry was that it cost the taxpayers 1-2 billion to set up and the gun owners didn't to have to pay to register guns. Here in Canada the gun owners should have paid to register their gun ... just like I pay to register my car and a special tax could have been in place on the sale of guns and ammo to cover the set up cost.I have certain rules I live by ...
