I know I posted this pic already. But my husband & I went to see West of Memphis today. I have to say we were both a little skeptical going in. We talked about the movie on the way home a lot. We were both angry about the miscarriage of justice, the quick jump to the wrong conclusions by law enforcement and the prosecutors, the joke of a coroner in the case, and the way the media was used to get public support for the conviction of innocents. There was a similar case in our town, where a kid was wrongly accused of a murder, and after serving 10 years he was found to be innocent by DNA testing. My hubs and I were both equally impressed with the integrity of Jason Baldwin. Not only did he refuse to lie and say that he had evidence against his friend in order to save himself from prison, he was the individual who did not want to sign the Alford plea. In doing so, he would again have to lie to say that he was guilty of the murders when he knew that was not true. But it was an all for one deal. If he had not signed the paper, he, and more importantly to him, his friends would have remained in prison. He did not want to be responsible for that. Most impressive -- we could certainly use more people like Jason. And by the way, the real killer is still walking the streets, and will never be brought to justice. :evil:
If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it. Just be prepared to be a little angry when you leave. And the sun it may be shining . . . but there's an ocean in my eyes0 -
