All over Seattle right now. This is gonna blow up. He's already selling out venues that the Keys and Jack White are playing.
My only gripe is that most of this album has been heard throughout the area. Still a good album though.NERDS!0 -
Wish I had checked these guys out earlier when someone told me about them. They did an NPR Tiny Desk Concert recently and that's the first thing I had heard from them. I cannot stop listening to "The Heist" such a great album. They are what hip-hop/rap should be.

Not a fan of much hip hop but I LOVE these guys. Found out about them when they played the place I intern that. Their material has substance, but then they also come out with stuff like 'Thrift Shop' which is infectious! In love! Particularly like the song that features Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses, 'Starting Over': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXwO7PwuPIY"Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

Agreed. I especially love "Neon Cathedral feat. Allen Stone". Such a good song about dealing with alcohol addiction.samjam wrote:Not a fan of much hip hop but I LOVE these guys. While "Thrift Shop" is a great song, it is nowhere near their best. I'm listening to old stuff from Macklemore and he is just a genius. Check out these songs as well for starters.

Yep, I've had my fill of Thrift Shop for the next century.0
-
I first heard of them last year in October when someone I knew posted a picture on Facebook that he had received his Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ticket, which was at Sound Academy in Toronto on November 23 and he was really pumped. I had no idea who they were. I looked just for fun if there were tickets still available and I was stunned that it was sold out (they played at Sound Academy, which is a venue that can hold about 3200 people). Then, I listened to a few songs and I thought they were pretty good. I don't always listen to rap/hip-hop and I am not a big fan of most rap music that has been released lately, but they're good. Also, from Seattle as well: apart from Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney and Foo Fighters, I can't think of any other musicians from that area.0

I've been in love with the Heist for a couple of months now, such a fantastic album. I don't think I've listened to any sort of hip hop/rap since Eminem's.. I can't remember which album.. But it's been years now.

Listened to the Language of My World a good few times as well, but the Heist always sucks me in.
Every time I think I've grown tired of it a song like Same Love or Can't Hold Us or Neon Cathedral, or any of them really, starts and I realise how wrong I was. "Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -
Since I last posted about these guys, I got the chance to see them live and holy high energy!!! My goodness they were so full of life and put on an amazing performance. Ben Haggerty is really, really charismatic too. I liked them before, but after seeing them live-whole new appreciation!"Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

Same here. I fully agree. I saw them at Hangout Fest, and they absolutely killed it! It is easily one of the best shows I have ever been to! I was just in awe at how amazing and charismatic they are live. It's just an experience you won't understand until you see it for yourself.samjam wrote:Since I last posted about these guys, I got the chance to see them live and holy high energy!!! Although its REALLY not my cup of tea, they have the balls to bring some very important issues to the forefront. That I can appreciate.

I was thinking the same thing - my kids loved that bloody Thrift Shop song and from that point I wrote them off - BUT watched them on the MTV VMA's and it was the first time I had actually listened to the lyrics of Same Love- their performance was pretty powerful.
Same as you - definitely not my cup of tea, but can certainly appreciate their talent and willingness to speak outI'll ride the wave where it takes me
