Drum Sets

So I'm gonna grab a drumset, because I moved. Was wondering what everyone's thoughts were, wether it be new or used and deciding the right set, plus cymbals and hardware. I'm thinking of going with a Pearl drum set, around 600, 700 range, with hardware include then getting the cymbals used.

Always go used. I'd rather a beat-up "good" set than a pristine "new" set.
Find a set used, then research it to see if its a good set and a good price.
If you're just starting out, there are some good Zildjian cymbals you can often find used. I believe the A series are the popular rock ones. My favorite are the Paiste Signature series, but those are much more expensive.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

I found my DW set didn't really hit its best sound until it was 10 yrs old. I always find new drums cold sounding. Just me though.Toronto 06-28-2003

I just bought a Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit and love it. I was playing on a kit that cost double, Tama Starclassic Performer, and I actually enjoy this new kit just as much and more in certain ways. New they cost about 675$, Im sure you can found some nice used ones for 550-600 $. This is a nice, small, intermediate drum kit if you can handle a 4 piece with an 18 in kick. While they are not as loud as my Tama, they still pack plenty punch and will work for rock or metal.
Hardware is not usually included though. And for cymbal suggestions? I used to be a Zildjian guy, used top of the line A series. I wanted to pick up some cheaper cymbals to practice my technique on since I kept cracking the Zildjians about every 2 or 3 years (in hindsight a lot of that may have to do with the environment they were in). Anyways, I bought the Sabian XS line, which are pro quality cymbals but are not hammered. They have a quick decay and a slightly soft kind of feel. Haven't cracked one in almost 4 years.2008: Bonnaroo
