"if all goes according to plan..."
9-12 months the EARLIEST. that can easily turn into 14-16 months. sure hope they put this time to good use, as the next album will definitely decide the future of this band.0 -

Everyone is so dramatic. Rolling Stones just celebrated their 50th, and they have a few clunkers which are still better than most bands' albums along the way.
The Who just went on a very successful tour, and they've put out 1 album in 30 years.
If the "time away" is what they need to get the crap out of their system, then kudos to them. Listening to all this stuff on The Porch, I just wish their next break, they announce they have broken up, so they can do EXACTLY what they've been doing for the last few years but without the overwrought anticipation. THEN, get "back together" to do whatever they'll be doing over the next year or so.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

not being dramatic. pearl jam doesn't have to release a single solitary song for the rest of their careers and i will still go and see them live every time they pass through chicago. they have enough material to keep us all happy when they are on the road.
just mix the lack of touring, lack of new music, and increase in side projects into one ball it is hard not to question the band's future motives.0 -

2014 new album
that's an average time of 2.8 years between studio albums, which is NORMAL. Exactly why everyone keeps crying about this band not being a band anymore is beyond me. Also a live album, two giant box sets, held their 20th anniversary weekend, countless tours, etc.
we've also had how many albums featuring members of the band? Jeff has put out what, 4 albums in that time? Tone, While My Heart Beats, RNDM, Tres Mts....How many has stone put out? How many has Ed put out? Each of them is also busy with their philanthropic projects.........what do people expect of this band?

Maynard from Tool just makes stuff up at each interview that he does. He just recently told a reporter that Tool hasn't started on the new album. The next day the guitarist was interviewed and said they are almost done.
And like someone else said, Tool really doesn't tour.
So it could be worse. And PJ just played three shows in the Fall in the US.92 - Orlando
03 - Tampa
08 - Tampa
12 - DeLuna Fest, EV Orlando 1 & 2, EV Ft Lauderdale 1 & 2

Months (give or take) since the last record at time of release...
Vs. - 26
Vitalogy - 14
No Code - 20
Yield - 17
Binaural - 27
Riot Act - 30
Pearl Jam - 42
Backspacer - 40
November of 2013 would be fifty.
Just food for thought. Three-plus years would appear to be the norm in the post-Riot Act landscape. I don't think we'll ever see a turn around like we did with Vitalogy, No Code, or Yield ever again (for a vast range of reasons).0 -
