Any possibility of PJ at Ottawa Bluesfest?

1) I'd love it if PJ came to Bluesfest - it is not too far from me.
2) I went to both Ottawa 2005, and 2011, and loved both, though I do still remember the epicness of 2005. Wash. Mankind.
3) I have never sat at a PJ show, but don't be too hard on people/crowds. Clearly people wanted to be there. They WENT to the show. People enjoy in different ways.
Anyway, if PJ plays Bluesfest, I'll be there.
Mankind? Even better... Don't Gimme No Lip!!!

I lived in Ottawa for a few years and attended a bunch of shows, big and small. While I never got to see Pearl Jam there I have to say that the crowd at the last Nine Inch Nails show was one of the worst I have ever been a part of. Dead quiet...almost silent. I personally thought the band put on an amazing show, but it was uncomfortably quiet the whole show.
I thought maybe that was just how Ottawa crowds were, but then I went to see Metallica there and the crowd was insane.0 -

Thank you, I'm not the only one thinking that!!! I saw NIN in Montreal in 2005 and the Bell Centre was packed!! And then Ottawa in 08... the 200 and 300 level were empty!!! In Ottawa, to make sure the Scotia Bank Place will be full, you have to make sure to play a lot on those radio stations: Hot 89.9 for all the top 40 crap, Chez 106 for the Boomers, Y101 for the country music lovers and The Bear for your Nickelback fix. Eric Church... I heard the SBP is full for his show! Who is he? I have no clue... but I heard he plays country music, that is all! You're not what you own - Ian MacKaye, Fugazi

Bluesfest lineup is being announced tomorrow. This is very unusual as it gets announced every year the first week in April. I never thought that they would play Bluesfest but, this news makes me think maybe.0

It sounds like there will be some big acts there this year, and looking at the festival scene there are some quality options. As nice as it would be and the dates line up nicely with London and Chicago...I think we will be disappointed .Pearl Jam

I think so too and for me that's probably ok as I did score stubs to London, but I was thinking maybe. Rush, Kiss, Black Sabbath w Ozzy, Tom Petty and of course Pearl Jam are the biggest rumours that I've heard. Announcement at 0630 tomorrow morning.0

So I guess nobody else thinks this is a possibility. Oh well.0

It was discussed a bit in this thread after a Quebec City paper speculated that Pearl Jam might play there:

The festivals apparently share promoters; maybe they'll play both. Some posters mentioned the Sarnia Bayfest but it has been cancelled.0 -

man... you got Rush and the TTH.
I would say you're doing pretty damn good and you've got nothing to be disappointed about.
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.0 -
besides 2011 bluesfest mostly sucks every year, last year was mostly electronic music, and this year the only big bands is rush, and bb king that is any good imo, fuck these other bands like skrillex, dixie chicks and all that nonsense, this festival is probably lucky it gets anyone anymore since the 2011 cheap trick stage collapse. ottawa is a really bad town for concerts, even though the pearl jam show in 2005 in ottawa was super good, and the 93 vitalogy show in hull quebec was awesome too0

it still far from ottawa, id rather they play syracuse, or philly, or albany or something like that instead0 -
what about pearl jam play the ny state fairgrounds, during the ny state fair or another time, its a huge venue all ga for concerts, can hold 50,000 easily0

Forever the pessimist, I have this odd/bad feeling that PJ might never come back here . . . based on the attendance and crowd intensity of the show in 2011 . . . the crowd sucked for the most part (even fans in the 10C section on the floor were fairly laid back) and Eddie tried really hard to get the crowd into it and we (well, most of the crowd) wouldn't bite . . . he seemed frustrated that the crowd was subdued.
It's like that for a lot of shows here in Ottawa . . . we are a pretty laid back bunch when it comes to these sorts of things. Not a lot of letting loose here, unfortunately.
Plus (and I am probably reading into this waaaaay too much), during YL in Ottawa in 2011, Eddie's lyrics went like this: "I don't ever have to come here again" and "I'd like to wish this all away, and I tried...." and "I don't wanna stay" (when he often says "I wish I could stay").... and Mikey gave us a really shorty solo. A sign perhaps of their frustration with this city?
So while I, personally would LOVE PJ to play Bluesfest, I don't think they ever will . . . .
Lots of artists hit Montreal and Toronto . . skipping over little old Ottawa. That should tell you something.Barrie 08/22/98

.... here is a video example of Eddie desperately trying to get the crowd into it . . . look here during Better Man at the 1:10 mark. Really trying to get them to sing along and they just aren't biting...

Anyhow, I know I'm biased because I am a hardcore fan and I probably shouldn't judge how a show went based on a 10 second video clip but I think it's just an example of what went on the whole night. Perhaps I missed some of the crowd involvement because I was in my own little blissful PJ world during the show, but I thought it was a poor showing from the crowd for the most part.Barrie 08/22/98

Also, bands have to approach Bluesfest with an interest to play . . . Bluesfest doesn't approach acts outside of the Ottawa area (from what I read online somewhere). So it's up to PJ and their management to decide for themselves if they want to play it.Barrie 08/22/98

PJ should talk to Rush about playing the Ottawa Bluesfest. When Rush played the Bluesfest in 2010, they were genuinely taken back by the the crowd response. Geddy's own words "Ottawa, who knew?" After countless lame crowds at the arena Rush were treated to a great crowd at Bluesfest. With people coming from all over Ontario and Quebec, crowds at Bluesfest take it up a notch compared to your regular Ottawa concert crowd.

That 2011 show was a strange one....the crowd just never got into it and there were still empty seats in the back. So much of the crowd just never got into it, no matter how hard Eddie tried. I guess it was a weeknight show in what is traditionally a low-key kind of town. There were also very few 10 Clubbers that attended the show compared to the other Canadian stops.
I agree Ottawa is not the best place to see a live show, but when I saw Neil Young here a few months ago, the place was really into it! That was a weekend show.
I hope they come back, but I kind of agree, Eddie did not seem to be feeling it. We need to redeem ourselves!Pearl Jam
