This is the scary kind. Almost all the people who get mauled and killed by a bear do so by their own ignorance or blatant fault. Predatory acts are quite rare... Not what you want to wake up to. I visit this area every year. My wife has family property there.

It isn't typical behavior that's for sure. I'm heading back into grizzly country next Friday. A week backpacking in Glacier. I'll wrestle any of the trouble-making bears.

Man the scariest thing you'll encounter round here is maybe a wild pig and lots of birds.

Eyed, is it unusual for the bear to be silent during an attack

I am so glad I am in an RV tonight instead of my little tent. I would be peeing myself in terror at the first sniffle of a passing raccoon.

And I am glad there are no grizzlies in Maine.

Hey Eye, I think you should leave room in your pack for a can of .45 Bear Assault. I have a nice Kimber that holds 9 shots.

That is just too scary... I'll stick to the mtns down south. The grizz are making it all over the Pinedale region to, so I dont even want to mess around with Gannet Peak or any of the Winds.

News reports last week of a wolf being shot by a herder just about 30 miles from our house, near my fathers family ranch on the Utah/Wyoming border. Looks like they are reclaiming some land...
