American Apparel for Women

I must say, the woman's version of the t-shirts are significantly small, can't they find anywhere else to go for their shirts?? I'm so sick of buying XL men's shirts because I actually have boobs. Are any of you ladies with me? It's so humiliating to buy a XXL in women's and it STILL doesn't fit.

I'm suprised any band would use American Apparel when Dov Charney is the CEO

they use AA because people wanted AA: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=173849&hilit=apparel+american

Just dug out my PJ Halloween shirt, made by Spectra. It's a Ladies' M but holy hell! no wonder I didn't wear it! It makes me look like a stuffed sausage (and the material is cheap).

JA 'While My Heart Beats' shirt by AA is 1" wider than the Spectra shirt, and that shirt is more snug than I'd like it to be. I have big shoulders and boobs, so that shirt almost chokes me when I wear it.

Girls with boobs are just outta luck I suppose.

Sounds like a good cause for a protest! All of you ladies need to unite! Show them, either better shirts, or no shirts at all!

Ok, I have a question then for the ladies. One my Valinetines Day gifts to my girlfriend is a new PJ shirt. She is normally a large in most department stores. Do you think she will be ok in an XXL? I don't want to get an XL because she'd rather it be loose than too tight.

Skip the ladies altogether and go with a Men's L.

    I would recommend a Men's M.

    or

If she likes the 'fitted' look of a Ladies' shirt, go in her closet, pull out her favorite shirt, lay it out on a table and measure (armpit to armpit) how wide it is. Come here, and compare it to the sizing info on the shirt you'd like to get her. Get her that size, if it's close, get the bigger size.

i don't mean this to sound mean, but do the shirts not fit because you have boobs? or because you are overweight? my wife, for example, has boobs but is still pretty slim, and wears a lot of american apparel tees and hoodies and is still a size small in them.

I wear a size 2 or 4. The average size of an American woman is a size 14. (ladies sizing comes in even numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8, etc)

Any guy on here that has met me can feel free to chime in to say if I am fat or just have big boobs.

What year are your AA shirts from?
They used to run small. I have the Big cannons also.
I bought an AA shirt sized women large from a different band in 2002. It shrank to very small
    I bought a men's small in 2009. It's too big.
Now I suppose quality issues are even now. I buy most of my AA shirts from the same company for three years now. The Men's and Women's Sizes are very different.

An AA women's small makes my twins popular. An AA Men's small makes them look like I'm wearing a baggy pillowcase.

I hope your Boobs feel better soon

I am a huge advocate of American made products...so kudos on the American Apparel. But I have the same issue...I have to buy larger than usual and I'm thin yet busty. Personally I prefer v-necks...otherwise I can feel like I'm being choked. Its annoying to be a female sometimes!!!

I was joking. But I'm not going to tease you for being thin.

    It's just a chart.
SIZES ARE SIZES in clothing. How does Mass Index compare to shirt size. I don't what to mess this thread up.
I really value Fellow female shirt advice. MAybe you should start an American Apparel for MEN thread.

Doodes back off! This is an important topic for PJ women!

If us females had a shirt swapping party  .... Nothing was standard back then. Now it's good.
    Keep it positive please.

thanks for saying it first, i was getting a teeny bit agitated at all the comments focusing on her breast size. normally i don't really care about the jokes but i just kinda saw a derailment coming and it's annoying to try and talk about shirt size in accordance with breast size without the peanut gallery burying the real discussion

I just bought the PJ Army T in a women's XL, and while
I'm a bit chunked, ( about 30lbs overweight), it is quite
tiny!! But now that I have to change my diet due to my

I usually got a women's L from here, which is my normal shirt size, and those are fine for me most of the time. Don't like getting man's size shirts if I can avoid it, as they go against my body shape, so tend to be too large around the shoulders/waist and too small around my hips. So, no complaint on sizes for me, but on the designs - most of the women shirts in the store now are just too girly for my liking.

There is no way I could buy a womans shirt from here... the amount of cleavage just doesn't work in the tees.
I think they are similar in sizes to Roxy I guess, perfect if you have a very slim, athletic body shape but not if you have any curve (you can be slim and curvy...granted, as you can see from my pic, I'm not).
I like the designs in goods at the minute, hurrah for not black!

I have bought mens shirts in the past, but don't wear them often as they are quite, well, masculine. I have thought of cutting mine up to make them more shapely.

  • I guess I just need to learn how to sew. I'll just get the men's shirts and I can bring in the waist, bring up the arms, round out the bottom, and above all else - scoop out the neck, otherwise I feel choked. :o

This is what I have to do 99% of the time. I am 5'10" and not fat but not slim either and not huge boobs, lol! I cant seem to get a Pearl Jam shirt in womens to ever fit me correctly. It does make me look like a stuffed sausage as well, lol!! I've tried XXL and I to am embarassed that is doesnt fit either. I urge them to go back to the old shirt vendor back in the day (1998-2003) I LOVED those shirts!! they fit well and seem to last :-)

My Men's small zombie shirt is HUGE. And I'm stuck with a XXL?
They could have sold a women's version.....

    Sewing is my only option.

  • I love that they switched to AA shirts, but I think I am in the minority.
I got two new PJ shirts for Christmas, both AA (the gray with feathers and periwinkle one).
I have other AA shirts as well and wear a size L in all of them. In other women's clothes/shirts I normally wear a M.
    Hope that helps!

Nope, OP is right. Those AA shirt sizes for women are ridiculous. I think it's just that specific shirt they use for printing, I don't think all of AA womens shirt sizes are out of whack but I don't really know since I don't buy their stuff (I don't like them).

I'm a size XS-S / 0-2 in most things, I buy size Ls in those AA shirts. M sometimes fits, but not that white Australian EV shirt so now I just go L to be safe.
