    NHL, union reach tentative agreement

    NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL and the players' association have announced a tentative labor agreement that will save the hockey season.

    A marathon negotiating session that lasted more than 16 hours and stretched from early Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning produced a deal that will ultimately end the lockout that reached its 113th day on Sunday.

    The NHL avoided the embarrassment of having a second season lost because of a labor dispute when no other North American sports league ever had to cancel one. A lockout eight years ago that ushered in a salary-cap system to hockey for the first time wiped out the entire 2004-05 season.

    It'll be crammed. All intra-conference so not much travel. 94-95 season was the shit - 82 games is just too long and it breezed by and into the playoffs. Just a shame no Western games.

    will be interesting to see what the blow back is ...

    as for the deal ... it looks like the deal we all said they could have had a long time ago for the most part ... two amnesty buyouts should pretty much allow each team to not carry any bad contracts against the cap anymore ... and after this deal - if the NHL can't make it work ... it's really the owners and the league's fault ...

    Glad they are back but feeling melancholy about it this morning. Just can't shake how the lockout never should have gone this long
