Oh wouldn't that be lovely. No guns anywhere.
But unfortunately we can't do that. Criminals will always have guns.
Evil will find guns. Responsible gun owners will hide them so they are prepared
to protect against criminals. We can not control people
therefore we must be prepared and protect as best we can.
Resource offers are a very positive influence as I mentioned for so many reasons
    besides the obvious.
My children now grown adults still speak of him though it has
    been well over a decade.

Let's get that ball rolling. Resource offices in schools nationwide immediately.
It can also help bring employment to many.
I don't want them in my kids school. As I said earlier, scares me a lot more than making me feel safer. More guns is NOT the answer. I just can't wrap my head around adding guns to a learning environment as being positive.
    Why?
Do you not like the Police either?

I believe he will at a prearranged later date.

The media was called out as being part of the problem. I think a cooling down time was
    probably a good idea.

    Truth hurts.

Armed officers in schools are just that - whatever 'gentle' name one wants to give them. How many would one need it the school? One for each entrance? One in front of each classroom? From the time the first child arrives to the time the last one leaves?

Teaching respect and reality???? What reality? Carry a gun, shoot and kill?

As a poster said, those kind of things are taught by the parents.
Rita...you cant put logic in this Nonsense....every citizen need a police officer ..
    its crazy and stupid....

    Negativity abounds.

Do you think our Police can only teach gun violence?

Do you think Police have nothing to offer a child but a gun?

Do you not respect Police Officers?

This a sad perspective to a very positive influence in a child's life.

As I said we have them here and they are loved. An valuable part of the school experience.
As are the workings together of parents, teachers and community.
We had one full time and one part time. They were friends and we were glad to know them.
It is important for children to know Police are our friends.

Perhaps you can try to be more positive and not paint our Police in a unattractive light.
Police can influence children in so many positive ways. Any reasonable person will admit this.
    Resource Officers are wonderful.

Man, this is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard...well since your last post at least

Come on. We had cops in our school because we had a run of bomb threats the same year as Columbine but it did nothing to teach me to respect cops. Well, he did get me out of serious trouble once our twice :o . Seriously though, the only way to teach kids to respect cops is have them in the schools. Give me a break. I am friends with about half a dozen Philadelphia Police Officers and just because I think putting armed guards in schools is a terrible idea does not mean I think any less of what they do. Hell, I had a cop over last night in full uniform while she was on her break. The last thing she wants to do is be holed up in a school.

Aren't you all anti taxes too? How do you suggest we pay for armed cops in every school? Higher taxes?

You forgot to include fathers, dimitri ;)

I can remember many events when I was in elementary school - aged 7, 8...we'd have these evenings at my school where the police would come and meet with the parents and children and teachers, as a community. I definitely thought of them as friendly, ones who would/could keep us safe.

(I was also a huge Adam-12 fan at the time, so go figure!)

Taxpayers of course. Please let's not bring something so valuable to a monetary debate.
It is priceless the value of child police relationship. This the positivity that lasts a lifetime.
Nothing like learning cops are good people. It is not only for safety but for relationship value.

We can see in others who never learn this value, filled with negativity,
we see how they conduct themselves with others.
Very disrespectfully, very much in bullying ways. Resource officers properly trained,
make all the difference in a person's life.

I could only wish this will come to your school so you can open your heart
to a lovely human being who will mean much to you and children.

Respect for our Police is upmost for making a good citizen. Making good citizens
is making good people. Good people are less likely to break the law...
more likely to be a productive part of society. These are the children we want of the future.
A police friend from young on how wonderful!

  • btw,speaking about "culture"..
alot of times they announce here in Greece, who want to go to missions like
Avganistan,Bosnia, etc around the world...as "peace" troops...
no one intresting about this things cos people here, all saying
why the fuck we need to go there???why Greek troops to go to Iraq?
its not our business to do things "right" in a foreign country ,
its all about the oil business.to control a nd take advadange their goods .and not for peace...etc..
but my country as member of Nato makes some deals ,so some"must"go
one thing is sure..we dont do parades or call them "war heroes"....when they return...

My sons have, their Uncle is a police officer. I don't need or want this in my sons Kindergarten on a daily basis. He has an amazing Kindergarten teacher who will mean much to him (and his parents :) )
I hope having police patrolling Kindergarten hallways is not what things come to. That would be crazy to me. Its fucking scary and does not feel like freedom in my opinion.

You are lucky to have an officer in the family. How wonderful!
You can probably understand then just how great having an officer in a child's life can be.

Not every child has this. Many live in areas where police are not respected
and crime is plentiful. Illegal and legal guns plentiful. Bad examples from bad people.
I think you can see how wonderful a good relationship between child and officer
can change a life. Positively positive change.

Let's look to those who might need this relationship to change their lives.
Lets look at the positive instead of the negative.
Resource officers are a very good thing in every school across our country.
Something the government should be preparing for now. Like I said lots of new
jobs for the unemployed also. And a new friend to love.

Why should the taxpayers pay for the armed guards? If the NRA thinks armed guards in every school is the solution, then let the NRA pay for it.

They are not armed guards as we have in our government establishments, airports.
The are trained Resource Officers with much to bring to that table besides a safety
police presence and quick police response. They are wonderful people there it teach
much to our kids and bond communities. That is priceless.

But they are armed correct? Again, more guns is such a fucking ridiculous solution to me.
