I love this brooding, soothing, psychedelic piece of music at the end of Ten, it is probably my favourite part on the whole album by now. But I always wondered if there was a story behind that. I know it is the same piece that is also to be heard at the beginning of the album, but is there any more info out on how it came into existence or why?

  • It's just a drone jam Ed and Jeff were playing the first time Ed came to Seattle.

Ed describes Master/Slave as being produced out of him and Jeff "making some racket" after some recording sessions for Ten. It was given birth from Jeff and Ed just jamming out.

A great sound to fall asleep to though - Release going into Master/Slave. ;)

Thanks for the insight! I never heard of the master/slave thing before.

It is indeed great to fall asleep to. Somehow it always struck me, such a weird, yet fantastic piece of music. I love it. I might want to create a loop of it ...

good question...I also find it hard to figure out what (and how) those sounds were actually made.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

It was on the original US cd version.. the one with the pink cover and glass case. It might be on the Ten box set reissue.

I don't know which (if any) vinyl it's on.

I have the US version, don't know if it's the first issue, the song is on the CD, the title doesn't appear on the tracklist... I have first pressing vinyl, song on the record, but the title doesn't appear on the tracklist...
