Great list! It's so great that I have to wonder if we knew each other in the distant past.
I just love "I Got You." Kudos to you for including the Waitresses and the wildy underrated Romeo Void on your list.
I'd probably substitute "Add It Up" or "Country Death Song" for "Blister in the Sun," but with a list this good that would be splitting hairs.

Did a few top ten songs that came to my mind with different themes ... went with the popular songs, the video songs, not the songs I like per se. Fun exercise with my morning coffee.

Romeo Void - Never Say Never
Soft Cell - Tainted Love

My 1980's 'archeological dig' as a teenager in the mid-nineties involved The Church and Billy Bragg - both highly recommended listening IMHO
There's also a sweet DCFC cover of this BB tune on Youtube:

I may have missed it on some of these lists, but Outfield was a cool 80s band. Your Love was a great song and still is.

I was born 10 years too early. As much as I love 60 music and 70s music, most of my favorite rock bands started in the 80.Favorite bands started before the 80s:
Neil Young and Crazy Horse
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (but they sound more 80's to me)
The Ramones
The ClashFavorite Bands started in (or released their first record in) the 80s:The Replacements
Dinosaur Jr
The Dream Syndicate
R.E.M.
U2
Black Babies/ Juliana Hatfield

Rain Parade
The Bongos
