Any list like this should include Paul Rodgers. Classic rock singer, and still got it :D

To answer the OP's original question and title of this thread - YES, Ed has to be considered 1 of the Top 10 Rock n Roll singers of all time. Range, emotion, control, power, impact, phrasing, etc...
Love seeing everyone else's personal faves pop up here too..
AMAZED to get through this list so far and no love for James Brown  ...
Before you all start on (this is rock n roll, blah, blah, blah) --> he IS in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame (for what that's worth).
AMAZED to get through this list so far and no love for Janis Joplin  ...
AMAZED to get through this list so far and no love for Jeff Buckley  ...
AMAZED to get through this list so far and no love for Prince  ...
AMAZED to get through this list so far and no love for John Lennon  ...
No Ronnie James Dio? Dennis DeYoung? Van Morrison?
I love TOOL, but I'd put all of the aforementioned way ahead of MJK...
Ever? Not the last 30 yrs, not just grunge. Rock n roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say MJK tops Ed and alot of others in all those categories except range and they are pretty neck and neck emotionally. Not to mention, I think MJK has been quite a bit more influential and is much more original.

James Brown isn't rock. Madonna is in the Rnr HoF too so I don't think they have a firm grasp of that. I'd kinda put Prince in this category as well. He rocks a little bit more, but I've always thought of him more in the r&b realm.
Janis Joplin isn't great singer. Influential as they get and a trailblazer
Dio, Buckley(from the little I've heard) and Van Morrison are definitely deserving.
Dennis Deyoung, I like Styx more than most here, but I've always thought his voice while great, was a little cheesy.
  • Robert plant
    Jim Morrison
    Eddie
    Layne Staley
    Chris Cornell
    Maynard From TOOL
    Mick Jagger
    Freddie Mercury
    Roger Dahltrey
And I hate too say it but Axl Rose up to '92.

Now that I give it more thought...... Jack White and Andy Wood
