What did Eddie mean?

at the Canadian show on 9/13/2005 after I Am Mine when he said:

"Would you mind if I told you a story. If you have listened to the records you might know some of it. I have a friend................"

What have the records revealed about this one friend who has been Eddie's friend since childhood. Is he referring to Lukin? That is my first thought without analysing each record individually.

    I doubt its lukin seeing how most of that song is about eddie himself and stuff he went through. What happened after he said this? What was played or what was said?

    Seeing as "Harvest Moon" was the next song, then I'd almost certainly say that Ed was referring to Neil Young

    He then went on to talk about the longest friend he had , since childhood sometime, and how it is rare to have a friend for so long. This guy was getting married the night he played this gig, and Eddie was saying how he couldn't be there, and got the crowd to send a few messages. The friends name was Jack and his wife's name was Jen. It could be Jack Iron?

    That's what I always assumed.

    Although I also got an inkling from the way he said it that it was someone he knew even longer than that.

    I don't know what the reference to the albums has to do with it though.

    Jack Irons has been married since before he joined Pearl Jam, so no, it's not him.

    I'm sure Ed doesn't only hang out with ex-members of his band and other cool rock 'n' roll folk, this "Jack" might be anyone.

    It is unusual that Eddie made such a generalised comment that nobody seems to be able to decipher. Anyone able to shed some light????
