Good things shows aren't judged by setlist alone, because I'm sorry, that's the most generic setlist since Birmingham 2003. You would think not playing Atlanta for nine years would get the fans better than that, but again, setlists usually don't tell the story.

Predictable setlist so far. But we have plenty of time for surprises. Let's see if they can make this more than just a festival setlist. Folks in Atlanta haven't had a show since 2008. Give'em something to talk about!
CoT should make an appareance. Isn't the "TEN Producer" by the stage?
Pearl jam didn't play Atlanta in 2008... Last show was 2003!

Well of course people will have a great time. But after just reading Brian F.'s account in the new Deep of how much care and thought Eddie puts into the setlist this has to have even you scratching your head. Certainly not trying to say it was a bad show.
I give the set list a 6/10. Not the best I have seen, but had a few of my faves in there.
My biggest problem was the sound. It was horrible where I stood. May have been a dead spot, but the pa would loose frequencies and we would hear 1/2 of a solo, or eds voice get really low.

I feel like I need to correct this: this is the band's first show in Atlanta since 2003.
And that made this setlist a little more of a stab to the heart. It was the right type of setlist for this audience, but I think it was pretty disappointing for the local PJ fans who have waited this long for a show. The guys had energy, but, to be honest, I was pretty underwhelmed by the experience. (In fairness, my last PJ shows were Toronto weekend last year - pretty much anything was going to pale to that.)
I thought it was a little weird that they took two encore breaks in a two-hour show. The Foos last night motored through their two hour set without a break. (I would normally pick any PJ set over a Foos set, but the Foos killed it last night - I'd give them the edge this time.)
The audience was pretty terrific. You would not believe how many people were there watching PJ. At one point late in the show, Ed pointed out a young kid who was up front, and had the cameras zoom on him. He was right up against the rail up front, and looked psyched and happy. Ed noted that if kids and ladies could be up front and be okay, the crowd was doing something right.
Before RITFW, they mentioned they only had two minutes left before they were going to get shut down, so they'd play the next song fast. (Honestly, I wondered if they might play "Lukin".) I think they covered it in under 4.

LOL! Unfortunately, it's that whole "Atlanta resident" thing. I missed 2003, and could never quite get myself to Charlotte or another place nearby for a show. (But I did get to see Ed here in '09.) I fell in love with Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto after seeing R.E.M. there in '08 and decided to try and catch another show there the next summer. PJ appeared on the schedule, and I jumped at it. I was worried how it was going to be, given how long it had been, but it was AMAZING. That got me back for Toronto weekend last year, and the rest is history.
yeap, Atlanta hasn't had a show since 2003....that makes this situation even worse doesn't it?
yes we all know when you're actually at the show it's different blah, blah, blah. That's true. But in that huge crowd, I am willing to bet there were tons of diehards just like you and me. Didn't those people deserve a rarity or two? I say they did. Did they get it?....
So, my point is, next festival you play, just do something out of the box. Just surprise me. Put me in my place....I want you to make me remove my foot out of my mouth....
p.s. remember what Uncle Neil does
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...
The whole world will be different soon the whole world will be RELIEVED
Why do we need rarities? Why the hate for this show? I and most others fell in love with alive, black, why go, even flow, Jeremy etc. that's what brings the fans there. Not sweet lew, not don't gimme no lip, not bugs.
Had they played there MORE recently, it may make sense to play rare songs. But after 9 years the people of the city deserve what they do best - be Pearl Jam! Yes they could have thrown in one rare songs. And if your unhappy at a Pearl Jam show where they play their best songs - you've got issues.
I've seen Pearl Jam 28 times and alive probably 26 times. Yes it does get a little stale, but once the solo hits, the crowd screaming Yeah in unison, it's what makes a Pearl Jam show.
Plus it's a festival. Even bonnaroo which is highly acclaimed, still had most big songs. They threw in a few and made it special. But it still was full of alive even flow black release etc.
I'm sick of reading about Pearl Jam having "balls". Your an ungrateful fan and should be happy they are still playing shows. If you think the setlist sucks - go outside and get some air. It's people like you who ruin this board.
If I'm too harsh I'm sorry. I'm sick of feeling like myself and a select few others are the only real fans. Everyone else just bitches and whines and honestly I'm sick of it. Sorry if this is directed at you, but for fucks sake, enjoy the music or move the fuck on. Why do they need to play rare songs at a festival? To lose the crowds interest?
Plus you weren't even at this show and you rip it apart because of the setlist. What about know your rights? Played only 18 times, super sonic only 13 times.. yet that is not good enough? Why not talk about the music? All your posts are full of bitching. Not once do you say anything good about the band.
Also, there are a few people who know me on this board, and know I don't post much because of this issue alone. When I do it's about music or the band or merch. How good the boots sound. What show was best. What song you like. Are you really reading, following the setlists, posting in this thread, because you only want to see the words sweet lew or bugs written in the thread? When you watch a setlist thread it's only words on paper. You can't judge the show on that alone. You have no idea if this show was good or bad.
Anyway
I'm glad they played know your rights and wish list! Love those songs! Nothingman porch crazy Mary and RVM! Looms like it was a great show!
Can't wait for show 29 in Missoula. I'm already on Seattle
And to reply to one more thing - if there were die hards in the crowd, then they should know by now like I do that festivals usually don't produce shows full of rare songs..
