Greatest anticipation I've personally had for a movie in quite some time...
One of the greatest actors of our generation (heck, ANY generation) in Daniel Day Lewis, paired with one of our generations greatest director/producers in Spielberg taking on one of history's greatest Presidents...
CAN NOT WAIT for November 9th!!!
(Thx for putting this up, btw, I've watched it like 10 times already today) - tons of great actors involved with this - should be a gem!
In the tone of Jessie from Breaking Bad: "Ya, Lincoln!"
    11.30.93~10.2.96~9.13.98~9.1.00~8.25.00~7.3.03~7.5.03

  • its my most anticipated movie of the year, but ive very worried and leary. I think TWBB probably is the greatest film ever made and DDL's performance the greatest acting performance of all time, and liked Nine, but anything he did post TWBB was going to be a let down. Im interested in how this film will pan out, as much of a fan of Spielberg as I am, his movies arent usually known for showcasing top notch acting. And he hasnt typically done too many historical films about real life characters. On another thread we were talking about artists failures, and DDL is interesting in that, hes probably the most picky actor in history, 4 films since 1997, and pretty much every single film other than Nine is considered to be high quality.

Im hoping DDL does what he does best, disappears into the role, and becomes Lincoln. I want to feel like im actually watching the real live historical person.

Im also interested to hear what method acting techniques he used this time. Supposedly during shooting all cast and crew would refer to him as Mr President.

Theres been some amazing actors over the years, Brando, Deniro, Pacino, but pound for pound, I'd say DDL is probably one of the greatest of all time if not the greatest.

DDL and Liam have an interesting relationship. Supposedly during the filming of Gangs of NY, Liam was fed up with having to deal with DDL, who in between takes and during breaks, would continue to be Bill the Butcher. This evidently really upset Liam.

DDL's process is facinating stuff. Ive seen all his movies, read all the interviews with him, seen him speak in interviews, and every time its an interesting discussion. I like how far he takes his roles, how he literally lives as that character and becomes it.

with all respect to Liam, I think everyone who is a fan of DDL, when we heard about DDL being attached to this film, i think we all sighed a breath of relief.

Could happen. Will have to see it to make sure. I've only called one Best Supporting Actor after seeing the movie in the theater and that was Christian Bale in "The Fighter." My cousin and I walked out of the theater after the movie and said, "Christian Bale is getting the Best Supporting Actor award."

    Can't wait to see "Lincoln"!

  • And finally a movie gives him his historically accurate voice rather than his iconic deep stoic voice.

Seems like a shoe-in for an Oscar, which sucks for Bill Murray as FDR.

I lived in Hyde Park for 6 years, across the street from the house,my wife's father was Super Intendent of the park when i met her, and he became a personal friend to the grandkids and super intendent of Campobello island, FDR's International summer home for a number of years before retiring.

  • bale is obviously way underrated. I have no doubt he's inspired by the same people who inspire DDL. Losing 62 pounds for The Machinist, then gaining it all back, and adding an additional 60 pounds to play batman. he's the real deal.

As for DDL, as I said, im his biggest fan, but im nervous. Typically any new DDL performance is akin to Radiohead releasing a new album, which is to say people say its the best performance ever. And they are usually right. It was bizaare to witness a DDL performance getting panned for Nine.

But we've got some heavy hitters coming up. PTA's new movie The Master is pretty much guaranteed to be good and Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Joquin Phoenix should be big deals and talked about when the Globes and Oscars come around. John Hawkes in his third straight great movie, with The Surrogate, should be in the discussion. Leo as Gatsby will be talked about. Mconehey, Kidman and Zac Efrom for The Paperboy. Tom Hanks in the Cloud Atlas. Hoffman again in A late Quartet. Sean Penn in This Must be the Place. Pitt in Killing Them Softly. Jackman and Crowe for Les Mis. Hedlund and Riley for On the Road. Jean-Louis Trintignant for Amour. Jamie Foxx and Leo for Django. Penn and Gosling for Gangster Squad.

These next few months are going to be great for quality movies.

Clint Eastwood's new movie, "Trouble With the Curve", looks really good. Looking forward to that.
