Does PJ enjoy touring?

I was thinking about this today. The band obviously puts on a great live show and gives it their all but playing some songs for the millionth time has to get old and Ed has said touring can sometimes seem like "work." With family and fewer shows each year I couldn't help but think the band may not get excited as much for touring as they did the first 10-15 years of the band. What are your thoughts on whether PJ enjoys touring in 2012?

I want to be clear I'm not criticizing the band but am just looking for some civil discussion between fans. :-)

You know, I was thinking about this recently. I think they enjoy playing together and love the crap out of each other which is the most important thing. But I also think that they all want to continue to grow, and maybe the growth from the band is flattening out a little which is why they all have their side projects that they enjoy. Not to say I don't think they enjoy putting on a show for us, they clearly do, you can't fake the stuff they do on stage but I think in order for them to be able to come together and do that, they need to be able to explore other things too. That's why I'm not too upset about them not touring the US, I think whatever it is they are choosing to do over touring the US or working on the studio album is part of what's sustaining them as a band.

I don't think they HAVE to tour anymore, they don't have lavish lifestyles, they could probably "retire" and be okay financially. I really think they keep doing it because they love it.

Oh yeah, and they are getting older too so it probably gets tiring to jump from city to city. I mean, I was exhausted by the end of my six city tour and I wasn't even on the stage!:lol:

    My 2 cents :)

I think they enjoy touring as much as they tour, and probably wouldn't enjoy much more. can't blame them.

Why can't more posters display this level of understanding about why PJ doesn't play their hometown every year? This topic comes up a lot, and it always seems to devolve into a bitch-fest about how the band sold out, doesn't care, only wants money etc. The guys are older, are true artists (and thus, pursue more than just one band), have been doing it for 20+ years, have families (young children especially), and frankly, are doing what the hell they want to. Would you want or expect any less from this band, than doing what the fuck they want to?

Nice topic and even better discussion. :) Let's see if it catches on next time.

I don't think Ed would be doing a solo tour, Matt gearing up for a SG tour, Jeff and Mike doing their various projects and shows if they didn't love to perform. Sure it'd get grueling after 4d, 4Weeks, or 4 months, but what a rush it must be.
    That's what I think.

I'm paraphrasing but I saw something on facebook(I know not a good source but getting an idea out there) recently - "we're just normal guys who take packed lunches to work, say hi & get to business, then when we're lucky we get to rock the fuck out with our fans at gigs" Shit I paraphrased wildly there but it was something like that. I like the idea, & I've read it somewhere else recently, that touring is the 'treat' after the 'work'.

Meanwhile like has been said above you can't fake & they weren't faking the smiles etc you see when you're lucky enough to see them on tour.
